Sillard, McKean, Joeiab Loomis, McKean, Joeiah Loomis, McKean, John W. Vandyke, la it not about time that tbe To wanda Water Company was made to pay its share of taxes in Towanda borough The people of Towanda are overburdened with tax es, and every cilinn who owns a little home is taxed to the utmost of bis ability, and yet tbis insolent corporation which claims to own property worth over a hundred thousand dollars, and which every year extorts thousands of dollars from the people does not pay a siugle cent of taxes. A greater lrj ustioe tban this, it is bard to imagine. The Water Company uses the ntreets of the borough for its own private advantage, it digB tbem up whenever-' it -sses fit, and yet it does not pay a cent tow ardh keeping them in order, or paying any other expenses (f tbe borongb. It dues not keep its contracts with the borongh to furnish continuous and i fiicient fire protection, nor does it furnish its patrons with an abundant supply of pure and wholesome water from tbe Filen- berger springs, as it agreed to.

If its patrons oomDlain of poor ser vice or exorbitant rates, they are met with insults and abuBe from the manager, aud with the threat to raise their raks or shut off their water. It is evident that this in solvent corporation does not appreciate the privileges which it en joys at the expense of tbe taxpay ers. Ibe.bTAB thinks that it about time tbe Towanda Water Company was made to pay a fair and reasonable share of the bor ough taxes. If there is any good reason why tbis corporation wbicb owns thousands of dollars' worth of property should not pay its share or taxes, we are unable to see it The oi-ntract by which they claim exemption from taxation has been declared at an end, on account of tbe persistent Violations thereof by the company, and the borough au thorities should see to it at once that the ccmpany is properly as sessed and made to pay its Bbare of tbe borough ttxes Why the poor people of tbe borough should be compelled to pay taxes end tbis wealthy corporation exempted, is Card to understand.
