September 21. 1972 gEMilm Paula Bra ford Conquest it' no Planet of it does fall down is in the ending when the apes succeed. They beat their oppressors to a pulp and the picture fades with Caesar speaking words of power for the apes. And then it ends. Possible J.

Lee Thompson. director, has alread lined up his fifth ape film in which he will show what happens to the humans under ape domination, I don't know. But I do hope there is a further film, for the Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is a very weak and inconclusive way in which to finish the series. Roddy McDowall appears as the ape Caesar and is the only one of the original cast to appear again. He has only missed the second Apes film.

The games take place live in the Michael Bentine Show on BBC I Friday. and he for one is expecting world records to topple as the world's top fleas bid for gold medals. Golfing is the mind of Eric Sykes on Thursday night BBC- I who attempts to join the local golf club. An invitation dinner at the club leads to a disastrous evening.

The Idiot, world cinema on Thursday. BBC-2 is the second of three films by the great Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. This will be its first public showing in this country. Kurosawa transfers the scene of Dostoyevskv's great novel from 19th century St. Petersburg to modern day Japan.

It is now considered to be one of his finest films and yet when it was released in Japan it was misunderstood and attacked. 0 0 Certainly not of the same standard and in a completely different category is the film being shown on LWT on Saturday. Carry On Don't Lose Your Head is possibly not one of the best known of the Cam On series. It was made in 1967. It's Paris in 1879.

the time of the French Revolution when every day scores of noble heads are the victim of Madame La Guillotine. Most of the Carry On team get very near to losing their heads. A new action adven ture series begins on This Kidd 0 0 Here we go again YET ANOTHER concert becomes a film following in the footsteps of the legendary Woodstock. the Stones' Gimme Shelter and Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs. And now we have the official film of The Concert For Bangladesh held in the Madison Square Gardens.

in New York. last summer. All the artists gave their performances for free and all the proceeds went to the fund for Bangladesh. Ex-Beatle George Harrison organised compered the concert which had a line-up including Rai Shankar. Billy Preston.

a record. On record the singing and music comes over well although this is almost spoilt by over lengthy clapping between each number which ought to have been edited out. As a film the concert is probably at its worst. The lighting is particularly bad in the sense that it lingers on Harrison whether he is singing or not. It also looks a very staged affair and the audience participation that made Woodstock such a success is lacking in Bangladesh.

the Apes' Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is the biggest and most exciting of the smashingly successful apes series according to the distributors but I can't agree. Of all the four ape films this one comes as a disappointment. Either the series has been over exposed. or else Conquest is meant purely as a link between Escape from the Planet of the Apes which was good. and a future film to come.

Conquest does take off where the Escape one left off. Remember the baby chimp born to Cornelius and Zira and protected from the assassin's bullets, well he has grown into a fulls sized and super intelligent animal. is great 0 0 He picks for himself the name of Caesar and sets out to conquer a section of American societ who are intent on breeding the apes as a form of tenth-rate citizen for the purpose of performing menial tasks for the humans. The film is not all bad. The processing of the unfortunate apes has certain audience appeal as does Caesar's rallying the animals to mutiny.

But the film appears a trifle disjointed and where a Mauser appears on the scene his presence is electric and although Joe Kidd is a little more human than the Man With No Name Eastwood still retains that beautiful coolness in his western character. Throughout the film he remains strongly in charge of action and as with the Dollar films, and for that matter with John Wayne, Eastwood remains unscathed through all the turmoil. Joe Kidd, directed by John Sturges, has plenty of action, mainly of the gunshot variety, and a reasonable plot. The film aslo stars Robert Duvall as the villain of the piece and John Saxon as the Mexican leader. The gun used in the picture, by the way, is a German Mauser, machine-pistol another western 'first' for Eastwood? 11 4 4 Sykes, Bentine, and Milligan to mention the 'Carry team LWT on Saturday called Spyforce.

set in 1942 it involves a top secret branch of Australian Army Intelligence operating near Sydney and intent on halting the advancing Japanese. Top Bruces are Jack Thompson and Peter Sumner and it is around them that the stories revolve.
