Yet the Home Care Institute itudy conducted for Eureka Wit Haras shows nearly cent-nhomemakers surveyed have no organized plans for the care of their homes. Based on its studies, the Home Care Institute offers these suggestions for an efficient approach to holiday housekeeping: Organize, in much the same way as a successful business or volunteer project is organized, a daily or weekly home care schedule. Make certain the schedule will carry you throughl the entire holiday period. It is easy to catch up with work when you have a master plan, so allow some flexibility in your schedule.

If you decide the spur of the moment to bake Christmas cookies or wash kitchen curtains do it! You'll do a better job when you tackle a project at that moment when you really have the desire to complete it. Select a closet or storage cabinet on your main floor, and set up a central li6me cleaning center where you can store all cleaning polishes, rags and pails. Read the instruction booklets for all your appliances.

A case point is the vacuum cleaner. This versatile appliance can perform 52 cleaning chores; Most women used it only for floor and carpet care, The Home Care Institute suggests that women save time this holiday season by using the vacuum to do the following: Before the Christmas tree comes Into the house, give it a gentle going-over with the dusting brush attachment. This will prevent the trail of needles and dust that usually accompanies a live tree inside. Add to the glow of an artificial tree by vacuuming it before you set it up.

By RALPH and TERRY KOVEL Have you mailed your Christmas cards? If so give a thought to Sir Henry Cole. He was the first man to mail cards to his friends celebrating Christmas. Sir Henry was the first director of the South Kensington Museum and in 1843 he commissioned John Calcott Horsley to design a card. The artist drew a typical fahiily dinner scene and 1,000 copies were lithographed and hand tinted. Some of the cards were mailed to friends of Cole.

The rest were offered for sale in a London shop. No one seemed to realize that a big business had -been launched by this simple gesture of tiioughtfulness. The only comments at the time were that a great artist pictured drinking scene as part ot the spirit of a religious holiday. Shocking! Q. How can we remove the brown dlscoUratlon spots from a bowl and pitcher set.

Are they from age? A. It is possible to remove the brown over-all stata from pottery and porcelain by- bleaching the piece in a bowl ot ordinary chlorine laundry bleach. Be sure the dish is completely covered by the bleach. Let it stay in the solution for 24 hours, preferably in a sunny place. Some spots will not bleach out but most of the stains will lighten.

Bleach might destroy some of the gold decorations on the dish but the other colors will not be harmed. Sonie experts believe that the bleaching process harms the dish. We have been using the method, for 20 years with good results. It is not a system that should be used over and over on the same dish. Once does not seem to do any harm.
