J. Harding vs. H. H. HarcTng.

NOTICE The defendant above named Wednesday, flay 25th MX will take rtice that an action entitled as above has been commenced in the Super ior Court of Beaufort county to perfect the title to a parcel of land situat -d in Chocowinitv township in said coun and the said defendant will further take notice that he is required to to appe at the next term of the Superior urt of said county, to be held on the tenth Mon day after the first Monday in March, 1904, at the court house in Washingto ana answer or aemur 10 me complaint in that widows must not remarry. No widow in the really "amart set" would ever dream of remarrying, however, young she may be or however soon the death of her husband may have followed her wedding. Married life iu Korea is by no means an unmixed blessing to the woman, so perhaps perpetual widowhood might not be objectionable if it were not for the necessity of prepetually wearing mourning for the departed. This means that during the whole of her life she is limited to blue, black and green as color for her costumes. Exchange.

We will have our second shipment of Oxfords and Sandals for ladies and children Our customers say they get the best fit and best finish in shoes us, and get them for less money than from any store, in Washington. Why? Because we buy direct from the factory, giving our customers the benefit of the jobbers' profit. Therefore you can very readily see why we can save you from 25 to 5o cents on the pair We would like to show you our line No trouble to show them, as we are anxious to save every lady money, and if you buy a pair of these Oxfords or Sandals you will have enough left to buy two pair of lace stripe Hose, which we are selling for ro cents the pair S'vd action or the plain iff will apply to theourtfor the relief demanded in said REV. DR. ROBERT STRANGE.

No event in church circles has lrj yearj excited more interest in pastern North Carolina than the election of a bishop coadjutor tor the diocfse of East Carolina of the Episcopal Church. The members of this church in this diocese have been stirred up over this matter for several months, and, because of the fact that that the friends of Dr. Robert Strange were urging him for the office, there has been great interest in the clcctiou among persons of other denominations. That the long contest ruled yesterday in the choice of Dr. Strange was a cause of general rejoicing in our city.

When the news got aboard that the council had elected Dr. Strange, Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterians, and people who did not belong to any church expressed comp'aint. This nth dav of April, L. MAYO, Cl'k Superior Court By Jas Mayo, Deputy C. C.

iSorth Carolina is fortunate in being represented in congress by an able array of talent. Both in the enate and in the douse our reprsen-tatives are up to the high-water mark in intelligence and alertness. They are not looking out merely for the development of their respective "bal-i wicks," but the whole south and especially ithe South Atlantic states, witness among others Senator Simmons' immigration bill and Representative Small's inland canal bill. Then again, one ot the most notable speeches that the session has produced was delivered by Hon.CIaude Kitchin of the second district in an arraignment of President Koosevelt. North Carolina is certainly ably represented iu Congress, and the State could do no etter than return all of these representatives. While we mar not have the au-thority of speaking for the entire State, save iu a general way, we do feel the right of expressing an opinion as to tbe First district. The people of this district should have no other idea than returning John H.

Small to Congress, lie has been there long enough to be of great usefulness to his district and State, and it would be little less than fol'y to set him aside and put up a new representative in his place.
