THE NEW CAPTAIN. West Bromwich Albion have had a disastrous start to their new and their supporters are getting impatient. The visit of Grimstly Town to the Hawthorns to-morrow is vested with unusual importance, for three successive defeats have given the Midlanders a nasty setback. Interest in the match will be quickened by the changes which have been made, and also by the fact that the captaincy now devolves upon Harry Chambers. Shaw, who followed Reed.

having been desirous of being labeled of the responsibility. Chambers is easily the most experienced player in the side, and occasionally captained Liverpool, so that he is not new to the task. It is worthy of remark that three other players in the team have captained Albion at one time or another, these being Shaw, Magee and Carter. The changes involve the dropping of Cookson, wboAas scored but one goal in four games, and the restoration to his 'old berth of James. Howarth's absence is due to an injury which he sustained spinet Notts County, and it is a curious circumstance that Rix.

who would probably have been called upon, is injured. as is Temperley, the club's other, left-half. Darnell, who played in the forward line at a few First Division matches two seasons back, is brought into the vacancy. Albion's team will be: Ashmore; Finch, Shaw; Magee. Evans, Darnell; Glidden.

The new 'Midland prof ional golf chimpion is P. F. Weaton, el Sir-tall, Following the championship meeting at Handsworth (Birmingham' on Wednes-Iday. when fire of the 67 competitors tied for first place with scores of 119 for the 36 holes, Weston won the title yesterday, when the tie was played off. The scene of the struggle between the five was again Ilandsworth, and the scores for the 18 holes of the replay were: P.

F. Weston (Birstall) 74. A. R. Wheildon (Moseley) 76, M.

O'Neill (Wrekin) 77. T. H. Richards (Leicestershire) 78, and Pixten (Shirehampton) 79. Weston played bound golf, deserving of the win he secured.

He was out in 35. netting six bogies and three birdies. And with a little luck that magnificent 35 P. F. WESTON.

might easily have been a superb 33, for at both the eighth and ninth holes the ball was on the lip of the holes from the approach putts. Coming home Weston dropped stroke' at but two holes. Alt the tenth lti, approach went over the green, and h. registered a five instead of a four: and at the hole that has been pregnant with disaster for many players all through the put his second into a bunker at the side of the green and took three putts, dropping a couple of strokes. O'NEILL'S SAO LUCK.

Weston's figures were seriously rhallenged by only O'Neill and Wheildon. O'Neill had a fine chance until the fateful 14th. He wag out in 36 and Aid the next four holes in par figures. But at the 14th O'Neill fluffed his drive into this brook, picked out, put his next shot into bunker just over the brook, tried for the green, but only jost got out of the bunker, attained the green at last, and then took three putts for an eight. One might eay that O'Neill loot the championshin through his Irish temperament.

Though on the outward half did not play with quite the consistency of Weston, he. too, 'was out in 35. thanks to a brilliant two at the 240 yard eighth, where he drove the green and holed his putt. He encountered serious trouble first at the 11th. where he pnt his second in the rough to the right of the green, and.

hacking the ball omit, went over the green into more rough at the other side. He regietered here a six instead of the expected four. WHEILDON IN TROUBLE. At the next hole. too.

Wlieildon met trouble. He hooked hi. drive into the brook and had to pick out and it was by a good long approach putt (it must have been at leapt 20 yards) that he only one stroke here. iilieildon drooped another stroke at the 15th. where he again hooked his put hie next into a bunker guarding the green, and took three putts.

Yet another stroke was dropped at the 17th, where he cverren the green with his approach. At the short 18th Wheildon needed a two to tie. He was nicely placed on the green with his tee shot. hut. going out for the putt and missing it, lie ran some distance past the hole, and took two more putts to got down.

Richards played badly going out. takinx 43 But he bad a positively brilliant SS corning home, and did welt not to find himself in last place. Piston seemed to be unable to avoid the bookers round the greens, and took 38 out and 41 in. PCIN CHAMPION. Weston.
