Beaten With Joe Elatvorth at the Kclaa. The yachtsmen of Bayonne and Staten Island bad a rare day's sport yesterday, Th event was a sweepstake race between the catboats Oe So, Bon Ton, Torment, and Shore House, The veteran yachtsman, Capt. Joe Elswortb, owns the Ge Bo, and was mainly Instrumental in bringing about the raoe. The prise consisted of a pnrse or $400, each boat nutting op S100, and also a 80-rnot pennant contributed by Steve Barnes About $8,000 wae bet on the result. The race was from off Robbln Reef Light House, ten miles to windward and return.

Owing to insufficient wind It was 12:46 o'clock before the boat received the signal to start. They got away In the following order: Bon Ton, Torment, Bhore House, and Ges So. The race to windward, turning at Buoy 6. was very exciting, with Shore House fairly flying, Tforment a close second. At this point the fresh breexe which had prevailed eased up, ana although the two leaders fought gallantly.

It wa a mora suitable wind for tbe two smaller boats. The Elsworths were unfortunate In having their matt split when crossing tbe line to start, and with tbe good wind then prevailing this spar bent over and back Ilka a willow switch, and thus shook out tbo pressor ehe so much needed In heraall. However, Capt. Joe Ele-worth fought valiantly, and has th satisfaction of knowing that he was the only boat to sail directly for the buoy at turn, thus saving a distance of about three mile, which theotber boats covered through mistake. The Bon Ton beat the Torment just 68 seconds; th Bbore Horse 1 minute 2 seconds, and the Ge Bo 3 minutes 47 ssconds.

Cornell Bm a Wstlk Over. Itxuca, Oct. 8. Th Cornell 'Vanity football team had an opportunity to show Its strength this afternoon In the flnt game of th season with Syracuse University. Cornell won easily, th final score being 00 to O.
