Douglae 0, Vnlveraity of Ariiona, 21.

The first football game of the tate was yesterday flayed when the Varsity team of the University of Ariaoua met with the Douglas Y. M. C. A. team, in reality the high school team of the Smelter City, on the University gridiron, Tucson.

The game was the first actoal test either of the teams has had under Are, and from that standpoint alone was most Interesting to the followers of the pigskin In the state. The victory fori the Varsity men who were superior to the Douglas eleven In weight. ape4d, age and experience, was complete and never In doubt. Even the poorer of the University second string scrubs were given a short whirl during one of the quarters. The University will make the trip to Blsbee Saturday next, when they will hold their second contest of the American college sport, meeting the crack team of the Bisbee high school, which in the past weeks 1ms been grilling for their tangle with tbe older men.

and getting their line in shape for the hard bucking and fast playing they expect. Wlille the University football or the state for this year will in all likelihood not amount to much so far as the locals are concerned the fact that the local high schools will tje Into the Varsity eleven In their first game Is significant. It Is also significant that the match should be staged on the local grounds, and tbe follow- ters of the game will through these small yet important dates, be en abled to judge fairly close where the chances for the nabbing of tbe state flag by the local cleated shoe artists. Blsbee Is busy arranging her schedule for this fall. She has two as sured games with Douglas, the Anal one on Thanksgiving on the Smelter stripped lot.

In addition there will be grid contests with Tucson and Phoe nix when they make their trip smith and when the Bisbee eleven goes north. It is also probable the games with the fast Bt Paso hi and with the Damming eleven will, fee arranged either for HWtise or for the cities named. Besides these, there are fair chances fro games with Clifton and other schools of the state. The com pleted program will be announced as soon as the dates are signed. COCHISE CO.

RELIEF BOARD WILL SDPERVISE CHARITY IN WARREN DISTRICT New Association Formed of Lead ing Business Men Takes Over Work of Former Committee To Cut Administration Expense The charity committee of the board of trade has recently been reorganized into the Warren District Relief Association, the board of control being composed of sonjie of the best business people In; (he district. The object of this association Is not only to give the best Attention to the ordinary relief wot that Is found necessary In almost every community, but it is also well '-equipped with the right kind or people to handle the work In ease of disaster of any kind.

A finance comiaKtee has been an notated fo collect funds for any spec ial object whenever necessary, while the regular monthly donations from various business firms and charltabt" people in the district are being used with as much discretion as possible In aiding those who may be In need and worthy of help, through unfortunate circumstances. It Is generally believed by the contributors and those who were Inter ested In the old charily committee of the board of trade, that much good was accomplished In the district by the personal service rendered, and the Investigation of cases where help was needed, which is the only means of preventing pauperism and giving aid to the most deserving. As the warren District Belief Association can now benefit from the past ex perlence of the charity committee of the board of trade, there Is no question but that the new association Is competent to qarry on the work of relief in the district at much less expense to the contributors than would be entailed by the Indiscriminate giving of alms. If all cases needing aid were referred to the association and all those who were charitably Inclined would co-operate wltK the association in every way possible. And all cases that are referred to the Warren District Belief Associa ttou will receive attention and whatever assistance it is considered' advisable to give, as It is hot the wish of the association to neglect any worthy cases of need If they are known of.

Shoes, clothing, warm bedding, are much needed for poor families, chiefly the Mexican families as many of the children are unable to attend school until they are supplied with clothing from some source. Useful donations of this kind will be gladlv accepted and will be called for If necessary. The office of the association Is in the Central School building, phone No. 443, and any communications addressed to, the General Secretary, Miss K. dimming, will have prompt attention.
