KOSENFELD Associated Press Writer EUCLID, Ohio (AP) Adaline Caputo didn't go to eighth grade this year like most 14- year-old girls. Instead she has been caring for her ailing parents, cleaning house, running errands and, most often, sitting at a table writing letters. In recent months, many of those letters have appeared in newspapers around the country, carrying the plea: "I want to give my mom and dad a gift of care, we are all humans." Adaline asks readers to send letters to her parents, Joseph, '74, and Pauline, 55.

"They have nothing to do, so they could write back," she ex- plained. Her father suffers from emphysema and spends much of the day reclining on an easy chair, breathing through an oxygen mask. Her mother has had open-heart surgery twice. The family, whose only income is Social Security benefits, lives in a cramped home in a rundown housing project in this Cleveland suburb. Addie, who also writes poetry, addresses her letters to "Any newspaper care of this city," and the communities are selected by whim.

"I take a map, close my eyes and pick a spot, or sometimes I like the name of a city and 1 write to it," she said. An AAA nationwide survey of 3,500 service stations shows regular gas selling for an average of 63.2 cents a gallon, down 0.8 cents, and unleaded selling for 66.9 cents a gallon, up 0.3 cents from last year. The average price of premium gasoline is unchanged at 68.9 cents, while the cost of diesel fuel is up 0.9 cents to 57.5 cents.

The AAA check showed that prices are lowest in the south- western United States, where regular sells 'for an average 60.5 cents, premium for 65.9 cents and unleaded for 63.7 cents. Highest average prices are in the West, where motorists can expect to pay 66 cents for regular, 71.5 cents for premium and 69.4 cents for unleaded. The figures are the average of full-service and self-service prices. The differences between the two services range from 3.7 cents to 5.4 cents as a national average, the AAA said. Gasoline should be readily available over the holiday weekend.

The AAA said all the stations surveyed will be open topics of the board of directors of the Chariton Valley Telephone Corporation at its May 19 meeting. General Manager Robert E. Wright gave a report on company operations and said that a toll separations study is to be completed and presented to Southwestern Bell Telephone Company by 1978. He also advised of problems of providing buried cable telephone service construction to new customers where buried cable construction is required. Richard Minor, board president, presided at the meeting.
