Pretty Miss Marlon Dougherty, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Webeter Dougherty of Philadelphia and daughter of the famous Dan Dougherty of the silver tongue, js one more in the limelight. Dougherty was only 16 and a pupil In a Paris convent school when she ran off! with "Baron" Richard Alexander Bohemian, with vast estates near Prague. But In a little time the girl-wife found that the Strobel titl and thelstrobel estates were fairy stories and that her husband was nothing but a wheedling adventurer.

So they were di-vort-ed. That was in 1908, and since then Miss Dougherty has not been largely In the public, eye. Now ehe la with her parents at the Hotel Meurlce, having Just motored up from San Sebastian, and she has: brought with her the congratulations of two queens and one king and a gold medal for her Irish terrier "Patsy" and a strong recollection of fetes, flowers and adulations from the grandees of Spain, such as fall to few American girls. When the Judges of the San Sebastian dog show awarded the gold medal to Miss "Dougherty's "Patsy," the sportsmanlike young King Alfonso and his English Queen Ena wtre the first to offeY their hearty congratulations. Then the queen mother followed the example of the royal pair and added her felicitations.

SIMILARITY Queen Ena seemed to remark a similarity between the prize winner "Patsy" and the Irish terrier that so piteously mourned at the late King Edward's death end it transpired both these terriers are of the same blood and family. King Edward's faithful dog. by the way, is now at Copenhagen with Queen Alexandra and is said te be still grieving for his dead master. Miss Dougherty and her mother were spending the season at' Biarritz when It occurred to them that "Patry" might win a prize over the border. This she did, carrying eff all the first honors and reaping golden laurels for herself and her happy rnlfetrees.

All this of. course was before the revolution in Portugal and the ahakiness in Bpaln. Friends, relations and onlookers are worked up to a high pitch of excitement over an Impending lawsuit by Mrs. Walker Fern, a cousin of the late President Grant, to obtain an accounting of the vast property of her niece, Mrs. Wilkinson, whose mysterious death was the sensation of Paris some months ago.

As a matter of fact the real rno of wh() that manyl small water supply companies that the Bay Cities Water Company plans to acquire' was Indicated by the tat7 ment made yesterday by C. E. The name of the victim Is also of the district and behind this apparently tame announcement is a story of almost incredible stinginess or heartlessness which has aroused-the little town to a wild state of indlgation. Some weeks ago the Duchefs of Norfolk celebrated the birthday of her baby son, the Earl of Arundel and Surrey, and requested that all the school children of the district be given half holiday.

The liberated children were then invited to Hjiond the afternoon at Arundel castle. Many of the youngsters came long distances to attend the promised rare treat. After the children had played on tne grounds for two or three hours the duchess appared and is said to have re-maiked: "Now you can all go home and have tea and then come back here and run raeeis." The wretched children, tired, hungry and ti lret), were not offered jjven a glass of water. Of course many never returned, but the few who did ran races. The duchess, who had sent a footman to the bank to change a ten shilling gold piece into toppers, distributed the prizes, the first prize being nix pence.

The affair created sucn, indignation In the tpwn that tha mayor of Arundel, a trsdefciran, lnvitod all the same children to a rarty, which cost horn $50. This rttther deliberate hit appears to have had no effett; hence a second tea party is organized tor next week. The duchess was a daughter of the late Iord Uerries and was raised In such gen PL!
