Just how pleased or displeased motor car owners are with their machines is very accurately reflected in the small ad column of the metropolitan dailies, according to automobile men and advertising managers of the newspapers.

If an owner is not wholly satisfied with his car, and tho concern from which he purchased his car Is not in a position to make adjustments, changes and repairs as should be made by reputable dealers, the owner will eventually seek, to rid himself ofhlscar by expressing himself througi the small ads of a daily newspaper. For, given circulation, the small ad is exceedingly effected and yet inexpensive. Racehtly there appeared in the Sunday edition of a leading ally newspaper in Tjos Angeles 294small ads devoted exclusively to the sale or trade of second hand automobiles, of which the owners for various reasons wished to dispose. A tabulation of the names of the machines mentioned in these 294 advertise-rrenta showed that there were from one to as high as thirteen cars of the same makes, all more or less well-known machines, but of which the owners wished to get rid. A most remarkable Incident in con nection with 294.

advertisements, and one of which the Studebaker and E-M-F interests are making much capital, is the fact that out of those 294 machines there was not one E-M-F or Llanders car offered for sale or trade. This, on top of the fact that there are more than 2500 E-M-F and Flanders owners in Southern California alone, pretty nearly proves absolutely that E-M-F and Flanders owners are satisfied owners. SMALL ADS SHOW Company at the wheeL Dawson Superintendent' Ot Stoddard Agencies Arthur Dawson, one of the best-known of the men active In the automobile game on this side of the bay, and an Oakland boy, has been made superintendent of agencies of the Co. on the Pacific Coast. His territory from Bakersfled north to the Washington atate line.

The position is a most lmportantone. Thework attached to it entails the placing and establishing of new agencies. The Stoddard representatives on the Pacific Coast maintain in San Francisco a very large establishment. Cars of every model manufactured by the Stoddard-Dayton Co. are carried in stock, in nearly every case immediate delivery Is possible on any of their cars.

Until 'the establishment of a branch in San Francisco by Norman Church, a delivery on this car within sixty days was almost an impossibility. With this drawback overcome they should prove big factors in this territory. New Officers Elected by W. P. Motor Company At a rej-'ent meeting of the stockholders of the Western Pacific Motor Car Co.

plans were laid for the coming season's campaign throughout their territory and an election of officers was held. The following well known business men of San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley were elected: i O. P. Hopkins, president and general manager; E. H.

Lourey, vice-president; T. W. White, secretary, and L. A. Carter, treasurers The Western Pacific Motor Car although but recently organized, has taken Its place as one of the most potential firms In local automobile trade circles.

The executive qualifications of the new officers combined with their understanding of the motor car business Insures the company even greater future influence. Among other things, the new officers have made preparations for an excellent display of Inter-State and Warren-Detroit cars at the coming Qakland Automobile Show at Idora Park. -ga- aJllM rnafcii i INTEREST CENTRES IN POPE RARTFORDS Motoring Public Receives New Car With Favor; PutHo Severe Test. Since their arrival here but a little over a. eek ago, the 1911 Pope-Hartfords have been the center of attraction In local autolng'clrcles.

When on the salesroom floor of the Conslidated Motor Car Co. those models have been almost, continually hidden by the crowd of motor enthuslastlcs who have been pushing their way to Inspect the new Pope-Hartford mechanical developments; while on thp streets their elegant lines and graceful running have attracted all ayes. Jack Fleming, the noted. Pope-Hartford raciriar driver, has been putting these new dembnstrators through a series of most strenuous tests and tnthuslastically declares them the most marvelous machines, for combined speed -and climbing capacities that he has ever seen. Speakinpr of the reception that the motoring has tendered these cars, Harry YVeiVie, president of the Consolidated Motor Car said: "We greatly appreciate the truly unusual Interest that local automobile enthusiastics and experts have taken in these 1911 models.

During all my experience in the automobile business I have never seen a reception given any car that anywhere near approaches that tendered this season's Pope-Hartfords. I am "fully convinced that the 1911 Pope-Hartford is a genuinely exceptional car, and when the public generally come to know the machine they will undoubtedly realize that this opinion expressed by me is not formed because of any prejudice on my part In favor of the car we sell." Prof. Colvin, of the University of Washington, who has completed sixteen days upon a diet of nothing except plain water, declares that eating Is "merely a habit." 1911 Chalmers Radiator Attracts Attention The Pioneer Automobile Company has received a' great many letters and inquiries asking what the bright blue bar means at the top of the 1911 Chalmers Radiator. In order to set the public right on this matter Mr. E.

P. Brinegar of he Pioneer Automobile Company makes the following statement: "The Chalmers stock cars, when sent Into motoring contests, are aways painted aaure blue, and from this they havecoma to be known everywhere as Chalmers "Bluebirds. These bright blue Carsi have won. during several seasons, more victories in proportion to the number of eventsr entered, than any other make of car. PROSPECTS BRIGHT FOR MOTORDROME, Prospects are brighter than ever for the motordrome. For a time It looked as through the project was a certainty, and that work would be underway; in fact, the track Itself completed by this writing. Hindrances of every kind have been in the path of Promotor Now, however, the" big item, the location, seems solved, two or three being under; A decision and actual construction can be looked for in the near future, and racing on it Is iot an impossibility around New Years.

San Francisco capitalists have pulled every string to get. the track for San Francisco. It has been of no avail. Climatic conditions here and there foregoe the poEsibilities of success the Golden Gate city. All in all.

a winter of excitement Is on tap. It has been many a year since we've had real good winter sport. Among the recent of the model cars to come here are the four and six. cylinder Fore Door Mitchells. Demonstrators in these styles were received this week by Osen and Hunter.

The mechanical features and different styles in which the car now comes were fully explained in these columns some wo weeks ago. Within the next four weeks carload shipments are expected; as soon as they are received the local company will com-menre deliveries on a number of orders. 0 This- winter season promises to be a busy one In so far as the automobile is concerned In California. SHOW WILL BE A SUCCESS. Just two weeks distant Is what should prove the best exhibition of motor cars ever held op the Pacific Coast.

entire floor space of Idora Park has been sold oiijt 'for the occasion; were the pavilion twice Its size it would hardly be large enough to provide space for the number of firms anxious to exhibit. For the season of 1911 the motor car makers have confined themselves to refining their products by- taking care of the little details. The Fore Door style of body Is coming into universal use. Not a maker but who has adopted this style of body. And it has came to stay.

It's sensible and comfortable, particularly so In the winter season. WEEDING OUT MUSHROOM MAKERS. The "Industry itself Is assuming a staple aspeft. The muf hroom maker is being rapidly weeded out. The next few month should EPe his abolition.

It's a good thing. At his best this type of maker "is an Intruder of the worst sort. VBy flary advertisements and "wire immediately for territory reservations" he ropes in many sucker; secures his money; in every case hopes to, and usually get enough to start the manufacture of a fewcars. They aro Junk wagons In every sense of the word. Furthermore, every car he turns out and disposes of means one less buyer of a standard and good automobile.

The sooner the death krjll Is tolled over him the better for every one concerned. The Portola is a certainty, provided 111 mj I in in k. I 'J Vjin 1 1 -w-Tl, if 1ml '-c" i mm GET THESE NAZNIES. WILSON Alameda Evervone points, todav, to the high standing of the It is so obvious that, as soon as the word Cadillac is spoken, you know that "a eulogistic comment The s'ffting process the process of selection and elimination has been going on steadily, in the face of a fevered demand which no facilities could supply, Never for one moment did the sales organization of the Cadillac Company forget that highest mission was to find people everywhere yjjho wanted aood car; that the quality of Cadillac sals was vitally more significant than' the volume. It has never entered the minds of the men who conceived the Cadillac, even tho' they have beenL continuously distracted byra demand greater than they could supply, to build any but the best and the most honest car they could. That is the real reason why not a dealer in the country can get as many Cadillacs as he can sell.

"ONLY THE GOOD ENDURES," and, as long as' the Cadillac Company adheres, as it will, in principle and to that high ideal, just so long will it enjoy its present high estate. Few realize, however, the plain, practical, home-Spun philosophy which has brought the 1911 Cadillac to its present unique position. It can be told in a phfae, a phrase so elemental that you must study to understand it and that phrase is "Only the good endures." Time was not so long ago when a huge volume of orders meant little or nothing. The Cadillac Company knew that it meant nothing. We were not deceived.

We were not swerved from our ideals. But today, the that no dealer in the country can get as many Cadillacs as he cansell fn spite of an increase of 50 per cent in the production is surcharged with significance. The increase of 50 per cent is in itself significant and the inability of the dealers to get enough cars, in spite of this- increase, is still more significant. The popularitr of the 1911 Cadillac has astonished the automobile world. This fact is especially true in this locality.

No better criterion can be had than to note the number t)f purchasers of 1911 Cadillacs from us in the short space of the last five weeks. "A satisfied customer is the best salesman for any motor car. In our case we respectfully refer you to our owners, mentioned below, who have secured cars from us. Every car purchased from us is guaranteed for one year from date of pur- chase.Trtis guarantee covers all defective material and workrnanship.
