DAILY COMMENT ON PEOPLE AND THINGS And still politics continues to run the County Board. And in the meantime all the is resting in peace or pieces. Looks like that suggestion of Ra-gen's that county employes be paid before Christmas was a good one. But the whole trouble seems to lie in the fact that if anything like that is to be pulled off McCormick wants to gobble up all the credit. McCormick's imitation of Joe Cannon ruling by gavel proved a fizzle.

His trusty little wooden hammer is about the only thing about him that made a hit. And the County Board's president's desk probably shows where the hit was made. We haven't heard any of the big store owners boosting the S. P. U.

G. idea along. Noceree! They're all backers of the D. Y. C.

S. E. Yes, that's what it means, Do Your Christmas Shopping Early and buy up some of last years left overs. That stall about early shopping helping the clerks in the last minute rushes is all bunk. They'll work just as many hours and probably more the last couple of days before the holiday as they are plugging now.

And have you noticed that the grocery departments of some of the big department stores are open nights now. Who the deuce is 'round buying groceries at night? Now the city will have to argue with the railroads as to whether they will pay nearly $3,000,000 back taxes they owe. A private individual can't get away with that kind of stuff. He has to settle. Orville Wright is now working on an invention that will make aeroplanes fool-proof.

Gee, Orville, can't you make one that will do the same for autos? Parcel Post is fighting his first holiday bout with "Veteran" Ex press Companies. And this is where a solar plexis or a rap in the bread basket is going to be allowed. So Roger Sullivan returned and slapped his boys of the County Board on the wrist. But then it must be remembered that Roger wants to be United States senator and can't play against the trust papers too much. And Jhe County Board is certainly in bad with the trust newspapers.

Anyway, it mustn't be imagined that Sullivan and McCormick are about to become bedfellows. They're' from different counties. It's as Kipling sang: For East is East, And West is West, And never the twain shall meet. The lesson handed Or. Marshall, late of Pontiac Reformatory, by the state civil service commission should be a warning to the remaining officials who take advantage of helpless prisoners.

There's a lot of old-fashioned, -home-like philosophy in Dr. Maria Montessori's assertion that along with the teaching of sex hygiene should come more of the solid kind of religious teaching. THIS SOUNDS DIPPY Parkersburg, W. Dec. 19.

Mrs. Floyd Van Court of Tango, W. Va tangoed at the depot here to show where she was from. Two policemen did the "hesitation," then hitchy-kooed to her side and turkey-trotted her to jail. "LET 'ER FLY THEN" "Just run upstairs, Willie, and fetch, baby's "Don't want to." "Oh, Willie! If you are not kind to your new little sister she's put on her wings and fly back to heavci." "Well, let her put on her wings and fly upstairs for her nightgown!.
