If the people of Chicago will follow Mr. articles which he is preparing for The Day Book they will know more about telephone service han they ever dreamed of. And it is just as interesting and important to ihose who cannot afford 'phones at present rates as it is to those who already have 'phones; for if Mr. Stroud's argument is correct, an automatic telephone system operated and owned by the city would make it easily possible for EVERY CITIZEN TO HAVE A TELEPHONE IN HIS HOME. Mr.

Stroud will also show people who now have telephone service just what is coming to them if they sit idly by while the big Bell 'phone trust is permitted to gobble up the automatic plant and throw it on the junk pile.
