Howinhell could he call that a strike? He must be blind" Joe Walter says he never questions the umpires' decisions frivolously "I do it from hearing where the ball goes" he says developed that sense from going to the ball games all the time ih Miami Fla No I never have any trouble getting to the ballpark or any of the other daces where a sports contest is being held "Mostly wherever like to go someone else likes to go They say 'Hey man can I go to the bafyaik with you? Can I go to the fight with you? I don't need a cane and the reason I don't use a seeing eye dog is because I prefer a seeing eye girl" Joe Walker laughs When he laughs you can tell he means it "You know" he says used to want to be a big league ballplayer even though I was blind We had a blind baseball team in the School for the Blind I attended in St Augustine Fla and I played second base My thing was I was gonna be the second baseman for the New York Yankees I believed it I believed one clay my eyes were gonna open and I was gonna play second base for the Yankees" It never quite worked out that way but Joe Walker isn't too upset If he couldn't ever play in the big leagues his work at least keeps him among all the big leaguers The rain which fell througi most of Sunday's ball game had stopped by the time Joe Walker left the ballpark The big electric sign outside the stadium said the same thing it did before the game: "The Countdown is One" Somebody mentioned the sign to Joe Walker "Look" he said worry about Everthing' Like he told me he's gonna do it next year and I know he will1 Vi OZ LIMIT ONE VO-5 HAIR DRESSING REG OC LIMIT 1 ALL NUDE SHEER ATLANTA (UPI) wait until next year for Hank Aaron and the great home run chase Aaron came within one of tying Babe Ruth's career total of 714 homers hitting No 713 Saturday night But although he had three straight hits in Sunday's finale they were all singles it's over Aaron said with a weary grin after Houston beat the Braves 5-3 111 just have to do it next spring" Aaron was pleased about going 3-for-4 Sunday because it raised his batting avenge to 301 putting him at 300 or better for the 14th time in 20 major league seasons But that wasn't what he had in mind "I was going for home runs all the the 39-year-old outfielder said "I wasn't thinking about base hits today It just happened that The Braves open in San Francisco next spring and although Aaron hasn't hit a home run there in about three years probably play all three games out there I'd rather hit 714 and 715 here in Atlanta but I'm going to do the best I can regardless of where I play" Dave Roberts was the Houston pitcher Aaron got the three singles off and that was okay' with Roberts since he picked up his 17th victory to set a club record for lefthanders Aaron said he really thought he might hit 714 Sunday "I was determined to try to hit a home run but it didn't work out that way I thought If I got some strikes from Roberts that I would have a chance His first pitch was right down the middle but that was the last one that threw sinkers sliders changeups and curves" said Roberts has hit my best pitch out of the park before There's nothing I can do about that One fast ball got away and he swung at it It was up but away and he fouled it into the pressbox If it been away I'm sure it would have been in the record Speaking of the record book: Aaron now has 13 major league records and he should break four more next season which he says will be his last Aaron already holds the record for most extra base hits (1393) and total bases (6424) and should come up with the 76 runs batted in he needs to catch Ruth LEGALS NO 21531 INVITATION TO BIO St Lucie County
