members of Congress at an informal meeting Saturday niccht ox pressed the sentiment that Indiana is entitled to a place in the next Cabinet It is generally believed that if tho Nicaraguan treaty is reached by tho Senate it will bo agreed to but tho Houso will mako no appropriation this season to carry it out Horse ranchers on tho plains have organized to exterminate all tho wild horses They say their domestic horses run away and join tho wild bands They expect to shoot all the stallions by spring and capture the mares Judge Gresham has been interviewed in Chicago Ho assigns asthe two reasons why he did not stump the State for Blaine hemorrhages of the lungs and the impropriety of men holding life judicial positions mixing activoly in partisan politics The Cincinnati Evening Post says The total number of industrial employes in leading trades north of the Ohio and east of the Mississippi was 2452749 in 1880 and of this number there are 316 249 more out of employment this year than in 18S0 the increase in tho number of unemployed laborers being 13 per conk In 1880 Ohio had 183G09industrial em ployes of whom 32000 more are idlo now than then Cincinnati is credited with 54517 laboring men in 1880 of whom there are now 4500 less employed Latest as to the Cabinet Washington special to the Baltimore Sun The most intimato friends of Mr Bay ard do not know to day whether ho will go into the cabinet and no public expression at least on the subject need be expected from Sir Bayard until the offering is formally made There are reasons which after duo deliberation may possibly induce him to prefer remaining in the Senate although the impression is that ho will take the State department In regard to the frequent mention made of tho names of fcx Senator McDonald of Indiana Judge Thurman and Senator Pendleton of Ohio for cabinet places it can be said on authority than which there be no better that Mr Cleveland hasup to this time never for one moment contemplated inviting either of them ton plare in his cabinet and it would very much surprise those who know him besl Bliould such an ideaoccur to him in the future SCHOOL NOTES DISTRICT NO 29 DOWNIKOS Tbis school houso is located near the terminus of tho Downing piko fivo miles Irom Maysvule Ihe house Is old and weather worn both without and within and only partially furnished But while there is a general air of neglect in all of the surroundings the house and furm ture are piobably sufficient for mere physical comfort However if the un derpinning and a few other repairs were looked to this would be unproved though it is our judgment that tho district wants a new houso The pupilage by tho census report is thirty coven by the roll nineteen and sixteen wore found in attendance The trustees are Thomas Downing and Thomas Brady Mr Downing has been attentive as to the WAtits of the school but neither hive visited tho school to see the teachers manner of teaching and discipline None of the Miss Lutie Jeas6 of Nicho lasvillo Ky is teaching her first term here She is a graduate of the Midway school and seoma to bo at home in the school room She uses the written methods in spelling especially with beginners teaches map drawing in the geography class In grammar she uses the method of diagramming in tho analysis of sentences and her class were quite proficient In a word thcro on roll twenty nine number found in attendance twenty two This school house is located on the Pleasant Hideo Turnpike about two miles above Lowell The house is newand of good size though not yet completely furnished Thero is need of more black board We find this trouble everywhere tho trustees do not appear to appreciate tho necessity of a Kreat deal of black board Tho school lot is well selected on top of a high ridgo with wide spread landscapes on either hand and wo doubt not that when this has been fenced and sot in trees and the school house neatly painted it will be a model for adjoining districts Tho trustees aro James Kennard John YeIs and Milton McCarthy Mr Kennard has visited tho school twice Of tho patrons Miller Galbraith and Mrs Anna Ken nard havo visited the school Tarloton is teaching his second term at this plucu lie takes an educational journal and is beginning to collect a teachers library Mr Tarloton is a very careful and industrious toucher and tho school
