fand returning this Later from the Yellowstone. Col. Ludlow arrived at Bismarck terday on the Josephine, bringing later intelligence from the expedition. After Rosser left the Yellowstone was crossed and the expedition made its way west north 70 miles in an attempt to dodge the bad lands. On the 3ist they struck the Yellowstone again ten miles ijljovo the mouth of Powder River.

The expedition was two nights in the bad lands without water lor or stock, The Josephine passed over the falls at theraouth of Powder River, which structed the Key West last Spring out difficulty and found plenty of water and unobstructed navigation. The Josephine left for this point on the 1st arriving yesterday. On the way down- a crazy man belonging to the 6th Infantry was drowned. Gtey, CHITTENDEN is ordered to Fort Abercrombie with his reg.niental quarters hfid lour companies. fhe change from Fort Rice, hin present headquarters, to be made on the return of the Yellowstone expedition.

Fort Rice is being fitted up for four panies. The quarters ure being vated and stables for horses built. A large number of carpenters are required for the work. Indian War Dunce. On Saturday evening last an tainment was given at Morton's establishment that combined uniqueness, grotesqueness and novelty.

Such an entertainment ns would draw ly in any and all cities throughout the country east of here. Twenty-nine of the head chiefs from the Mandan, Grosvon and Reo nations, who were here to meet the Indian Agent, were prevailed upon to execute some of their various dances before a Bismarck audience. At the hour announced for the commencement a large number of ladies and gentlemen assembled at ton's, to witness, to them, a novel scene. The Indians were elaborately clothed and dressed, almost gorgeously so. Their faces covered and striped with paint and they presented a vivid reality of a wild native of the forest, of the Longfellow "school." They gave a war dance, corn dance, a grass dance, a snake dance and several others.

At the close of each round of revolutions and contorions some one of the three tribes H.Ol would deliver a short "address to their own people which was translated into for the benefit ol' the whites by interpreters. These redskins were tall, large, wart muscular men who looked as though they could endure much physical pain and fight like tigers. Away out here on the borders of the Tndian country in a town of 1000 people and-only three months old was given an entertainment that would be considered rare, rich, and worthy of attention in any populous country. think of it! Great Chief, Slocking, wound up the evenings entertainment by a acteristic address to the whites which was loudly applauded by his brother red skins. What with the pounding of gongs, the jingling of many bells on the Indian clothing, the peculiar singing companiment to the gongs, with their frequent outburst of yells, so' loud and stunning as to be almost demonical made a truiy novel scene, one not to be easily forgotten by those who then first nessed anything of thi kind.
