Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at New Zion Baptist Church in Cooper with Elder Rondie Williams officiating, burial will be in New Home Cemetery, Cooper. He was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Delta County to Paul and Nancy Lane Oats. He had served in the Army.

Surviving are a son, Richard Lee Oats of Dallas; a daughter, Caroline Reynolds of Cooper; a sister, Lucy White of Memphis, Texas; and grandchildren, Don, Chris, Megan and Richard Oats, all of Cooper and Billy Gene Reynolds of Japan. John E. Avety HONEY GROVE John E. Avery, 87, of Honey Grove died Wednesday, July 2, 1997, at Honey Grove Nursing Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m.

Friday, July 4 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lance Clemmons and the Rev. Greg Faulls officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.

Thursday at the funeral home. He was bom Sept. 1, 1909, in the Dial community south of Honey Grove to John Richard and Neice Alice Anderson Avery. He married Pauline Wishard May 11, 1946, in Honey Grove. He attended school at Dial and drove the Honey Grove school bus for seven years.

It was known as Johnny's Bus. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during World War II in the 865th Squadron of the 494th Bomb Group. He was an ejdertat Dial Presbyterian Church. Fannin County conirhilsioner for Precinct 3 from 1947-52 and from 1961-76.

was a member of the Texas Historical Commission for 20 years and vice president of the Oakwood Cemetery Association, vice president of Northeast Texas Resources Conservation and Development, a member of North Texas Tuberculosis Association, the Honey Grove Chamber of Commerce, American Heart Association, Fannin County Friends of Sam Rayburn Library and Friends of Bertha Voyer Memorial Library. Surviving are his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Alice and Steve Glover of Paris; two granddaughters, Allison and Amanda Glover; a sister, Lena Smith of Paris; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerald and Peggy Wishard of Dial; a sister-in- law, Grace Avery of Honey Grove; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bill Thurman, Charles Yarbrough, Ricky Snell, Rodger Joyce, Gerald Wishard, Wayne Clement, Sonny Stanley and Robert A. Shelton Jr. Memorials may be made to John E.

She married WalterC. Eckles Jan. 18, 1957. Surviving are her husband; daughters, Rayna Haskell of Deport and Charlotte Myers of Paris; a son, Walter Eckles Jr. of Powderly; and seven grandchildren.

.4. Mrs. Carter (Doris) Lyies Doris Martin Lyies, 68, of Paris died Tuesday, July 1, 1997, at McCuistion RegionalMedical Center after several years of illness due to liver cancer. Bright-Holland Funeral Home will conduct services at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, at Immanuel Mis.

1, 1.928, in Wolfe City, to Olen Cranford and Effie Mae Pierce Martin. She was a graduate of Wolfe City-HjgJul ScfrooPatid TheolBgical Seminary in Fort Worth. She 'married Carter Lyies Feb. 26, 1947, in Gainesville. She had been a faithful wife and mother fdr more'than 50 years.

She served along 1 with her husband, the Rev. Carter Lyies, as a pastor's wife for several years arid for the past 26 years through the churches of the Red River Valley Baptist Association where her husband was director of associational missions before his retirement last December. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband; three sons and daughters-in law, Tom and Louise Lyies of Lindale, Ron and Brenda Lyies of Pasadena and Paul and Lisa Lyies of Pasadena; a daughter, Elaine and her husband John Deari of Carrollton; six grandsons, Eric Lyies, Greg Lyies, Tirri Lyies, Philip Lyies, Clifton Lyies and Austin Lyies; four granddaughters, Ronda Lyies, Bridget Dean, Stephanie Dean and Claire Lyies; three sisters, Mrs. Ed (Ramona) Beane of Greenville, Mrs.
