THE DECATUR DAILY REVIEW PACK SEVENTH EN Decatur, Illinois, Friday, January 18, 1980 Macon County Deaths Shah blames U.S. oil firms for downfall a "continuing theme of either be-'-trayal or conspiracy." Two years before the revolution, the shah said, "we heard from two different sources connected with the oil companies that the regime with-, in Iran will change If just in imagination, we believed that there was a plan that there must be less oil offered to the world market in order to make the price of oil go up. one country should have been the one chosen for this sacrifice." The shah did not name the two companies, but said they were both American Iran's oil consortium included Gulf Oil. Mobil. Exxon.

Standard Oil of California and NEW YORK (AP) The deposed Shah of Iran says he has not renounced his claim to Iran's Peacock Throne and that the greed of U.S. oil companies brought about his downfall one year ago. "Abdicating, in the vocabulary of a king, does not exist unless it's very, very special circumstances." Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi said Thursday in a televised interview with British journalist David Frost. "Does a king have to agree to abdicate?" Frost asked. "Yes Unless he is decapitated." replied the 60-year-old shah, who is under a death sentence from a revolutionary court in Iran.

The hour-long interview on the ABC newsmagazine "20-20" was the shah's most extensive public state ment since he left Iran lor exile one year ago Wednesday. He charged his regime had been sacrificed by profit-hungry American oil companies and rejected as "preposterous" claims bv the regime of Ayatollah- Ruhoilah Khomeini that he was responsible for the massacre of tens of thousands of Iranians during his reign. He labeled the United Nations, which has been proposed as a forum for airing grievances against his monarchy, "impotent" except in its dealings with "defenseless individuals." Frost said the shah conceded "errors of his own making" encouraged his overthrow, but that the conversation with the ailing monarch had grandchildren. A Macon County Board committee has approved a county liquor license for Joseph M. Klieber for a package liquor store in the 3000 Block W. Main St. However, the license will not be issued until a structure to house the store is completed and inspected and an occupancy permit is issued, according to County Board Chairman Bennett Bradley who is county liquor commissioner. The store will be on the north side of Main Street at the foot of Snake Hill.

It be adjacent to a Huck's Convenience Food Store, which is to be constructed later this year. Klieber said Thursday he applied for license in July and has had several meetings with city and county officials concerning the proposed package store. The Decatur Realtor said he is purchasing the land for the store from Decatur City Councilman Nick Striglos. "It will be a retail liquor store with a drive-up window," Klieber said. "It will be a tavern." mmmu jimii i mi j.

A 'yVVITH THE PURCHASE OF SELECTED 1980 SYSiimi 19" TABLE TV Klieber said he had not been notified as of late Thursday of the license approval. He said plans for his building cannot be made final until he is certain he has a license. The property on which the store will be located is immediately adjacent to the city boundary. Bradley said the land has carried a commercial zoning designation from the county for many years. "Klieber met all the zoning and legal requirements for a liquor license," Bradley said.

"The Health. Agriculture, Welfare and Safety Committee had no objection to issuing the license so long as his building passes inspection." Klieber wondered aloud Thursday why it had taken the county six months to approve his license application. But Bradley said a problem developed with the legal description Klieber submitted for his property when he sold part of it to Huck's. He said a new legal description had to be submitted before approval could be given. HEINKEL'S COUNTRY-STYLE BACON lb.

go to court Herbert Gulick, a farmer in the township; Paul J. Gietl. father of trustee Dan Gietl; and Rodney Hofferkamp, one of those who has been nominated for Tangney's post. The selection of a fifth member for the board would break up an impasse which has slowed action on some issues since the resignation of Tangnev. Trustees Jim McKinney and William Koonce have sided together against Township Supervisor Murice Doyle and Dan Gietl in most board actions.

It is that 2-2 split which also has prevented the selection of a new board member. Most recently nominated was Dan Dipper, a township farmer, who has been supported by Gietl and Doyle and opposed by Koonce and McKinney.
