Ridge National fusion energy budget would have a severe impact WKXT-TV on air at reduced power WKXT-TV Channel 8 was on the air at reduced power late Thursday following delays that have plagued the new station all A week 1 Channel 8 signed on at 4 pm said General Manager Lewis a Cosby He said the station is operating at reduced power until a part for the transmitter arrives some time this weekend "We decided it was better for our viewers to go ahead and go on the air even with a weaker signal" Cosby said He said reports to the station show that even with a weaker signal viewers are getting better reception from the new VHF signal than they were this week from WTVK-TV which was a UHF station WKXT replaces WTVK Channel 26'which was broadcasting on reduced power this week during the transition Equipment problems and high winds have delayed the station which was to have signed on Monday -l1 City approves bonds mostly for airport The Knoxville City Council on Thursday approved the sale ofii $12275000 in bonds most of which will be used to pay for improvements at McGhee Tyson Airport Because the bond rating was improved last week by two national rating agencies the city was able to save money on interest rates Finance Director Randy Vineyard said He estimated the rating increase saved the city more than $250000 in interest costs over the life of the bonds -'mb About $10 million of the bond sale will go to the airport The remainder will finance public improvements in the downtown area-- Metropolitan Planning Commission members and staff members huddling from left are
