IT BLOOMS IX THE SPRING. THE SN STORY THAT TAXES THE CREDULITY; But the Following: Unique in Way, and owk Wonderful of a Man Who to a Serpentine l'arn with Whisky In True. Lexington, March Transcript has received the following special dispatch from Richmond, Cunningham, of this place, is death to snakes and venomous reptiles of all kinds. The snake that bites him dies in great agony, frothing at the mouth and swelling to almost double its former proportions. Cunningham has discovered a poison more deadly than that of the reptile, but harmless as a lotion for the human body, and the moment the fangs of the snake come in contact with it a powerful electrical current is generated that drives the own poison through every blood vessel in its body.

Blood-poisoning is the result which, with the terrible electrical shock causes almost instant death. Cunningham killed duiing last sumnvr over snakes in Madison county, and realized quite a handsome sum by his wonderful skill in driving those offensive reptiles from the premises of our citizens. J. B. Parks, who owns a beautiful farm near Kingston, was over-run with rattlesnakes and blacksnakes.

He lost several head of fine Jersey cows, which died from the effects of rattlesnake bites. Then the blacksnake; carried off hundreds of his young chickens. The place fairly swarmed with snakes, so Cunningham was called in. He can locate a den of snakes by their scent as easily as a dog can track a rabbit. He did not trail for them to come out of their holes, but whenever it was practicable he crawled in after them and killed them right and left with a club he carried.

All that bit him died, but of course the great number of snakes lie encountered in his labor could not all get a chance to bite him, and had to be dispatched with a club. He estimates the number of snakes killed on farm at Irvine, who lives just, on the outskirts of Richmond, had throe barrels of Anderson county whisky, fourteen years old. in his cellar. He loft the bungholes open to ago it faster and make it mellow. Judge of his surprise when went to show it to some visiting friend- one morning to find that it was nearly all gone, and in one of the barrels only about two gallons were left.

In this barrel over forty large black makes were discovered, all in a beastly state of intoxication, while in the dark coriv.Ts of the cellar gr of rattlesnakes were in various stages of intoxication. hey had got in through a hole in the basement door, and its Cob Irvine was away with his family for about three monies, it is supposed the snakes, not being disturbed, stayed with the whisky and did not draw a sober breath during all that time. This last September. Patrick was called in and succeeded in kill ing over 8.000 snakes on that place within two weeks, receiving for his services per 1,000. Col.

Shackleford, of the firm of Shackleford Sc owned half interest in the whisky destroyed the snakes, and to that gentleman your reporter is indebted for these facts. Cobe Tavlor, P. XI. Pope, Smith, and Col. Prather had to call in Cun ningham to clear their places also.

The snakes had multiplied wonderfully in Madison county since the war. It is supposed that they were frightened by the roar and din of battle near Perry ville, and congregated for safety in this vicinity. Cunningham has en gagemcnts for clearing out snakes on numer ous farms in this county during the coming summer; ab-o those on the farms of J. W. Parris and Mayor Garner, of Winchester, and Col.

Amydelong and Isaac Rumsey, of Lexington. is rather a small man of very complexion, with a thick mat of dark hair, He lias keen, piercing eyes, and talks with wonderful rapidity. He was bom in India, near Calcutta; his parents were Irish and were sent out the English government for department work in that province. It was in the jungles of India that Cunningham discovered from the natives the formula for making the deadly lotion, so fatal to poisonous reptiles. The natives all anoint themselves with it and are thus rendered snake- proof.

Cunningham says he will keep on killing and driving the snakes until there is not one in the state of Kentucky, if the jh will pay him for it. that would bean impossibility for one man to accomplish, but he says he likes the business and hopes to do a good work in the state if his life and health is only spared a few years. in this article nothing but a dual te ithout the slightest attempt at 'U -a.
