Well so nothingac- tually The real drama of New York Undercover lately has taken place behind the scenes In an endless summer of reruns for three days last week this series provided some of the most entertaining television of the year all of it off-screen I laughed I cried it was the fed-good 1-good contract dispute of the season! It all started Tuesday July 23 when Yoba and DeLorenzo staged an impromptu sit-down strike to force the show to renegotiate their contracts apparently believing that it was their blinding star power that rocketed New York Under cover to its spectacular 77th-place finish in the Nielsens what gave TV insiders a case of the chuckles was that Yoba and DeLorenzo might have been in the worst possible Elace to pull this: New York Undercover is produced by Dick Wolf who is famous for abrupt cast changes on another of his series Law A Order In any case the walkout set into motion 72 hours of comic theater the likes of which TV seen since the glory days of I Love Lucy These were the day-by-day developments: Tuesday: Production on New York Undercover shuts down when its stars fail to show up for the second straight day manager issues the following statement: "Michael was prepared to report to work this week only to find production executives were not interested in discussing his future Wolf issues his own statement: of the actors has asked for $75000 per episode AND creative input AND a gym AND a star trailer AND better He adds can promise you this: New York Undercover will be back this fall with or without the two actors who are in breach of their Wednesday: Wolf interviews actors to replace Yoba and DeLorenzo New York Daily News reporter Christy Slewinski asks Wolf how the show will explain the disappearance cops die in cnurch he succinctly re- 6 lies And if Yoba and eLorenzo subseq to return?
