They have lived in Salina most of their married lives. He worked for Graves Truck Line, owned Rahmeier Trucking and retired from Stewart I.H.

in Salina. She is an accountant and homemaker. Charles Wright and the former Lillie Mae Maitlen exchanged wedding vows Dec. 19,1948, in Ottawa County. They have lived in Concordia most of their married lives. He worked for Beatrice Food and retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation, both in Concordia. She operated a truck stop cafe at Glasco and retired as a waitress and cook in Concordia.

55 YEARS AGO Betty Lull and Clifford and Betty Makalous Clifford Makalous Makalouses of Belleville celebrate 55th occasion Clifford and Betty Makalous of Belleville observed their 55th wedding anniversary with a family dinner Dec. 12 hosted by their daughter and grandchildren. Their daughter is Nancy Simms of Belleville. Grandchildren are Jeanette Sheets, Belleville; and Ed Simms, Kansas City, Mo. There are three great-granddaughters.

Clifford Makalous and the former Betty Lull exchanged wedding vows Dec. 12, 1943, at Manhattan. They have lived in Belleville most of their married lives. He is the retired owner and chief executive officer of the First National Bank in Belleville. She is a homemaker.

Salinans Ruth and the Rev. Duane Pridey, 416 E. Claflin, are to observe their 50th wedding anniversary with a 2 to 4 p.m. open house Sunday, Dec. 20, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1425 S.

He is a retired farmer and stockman in Dickinson County. Card shower to fete Laura Bradshaw, 80 Tuesday, Dec. 15, is the 80th birthday of Salinan Laura Bradshaw. There are three grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Born Laura Renard in 1918 at Salina, the honoree married Vernon "Brad" Bradshaw Jan. 8, 1940, at Salina. She has lived in Salina all of her life. Before marriage, she worked as a bookeeper for Stack Plumbing in Salina.

She is a homemaker. Veda Pihl celebrates 90th birthday occasion Monday, Dec. 14, is the 90th birthday of Veda Pihl of Smolan. She is to observe the occasion with a family dinner today at the Brookville Hotel. Her children and her children's spouses are: Donald and Betty Pihl and LeRoy and Coleen Pihl, all of Falun; and Vera Jo and Carl Eklund, Salina.

There are 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Born Veda Young in 1908 at Assaria, the honoree married Wallace Pihl Aug. 14,1929, at Assaria. They have farmed in the Smolan and Falun area most of their married lives. She is a homemaker.

19, at the Luray Senior Center. All friends and relatives are invited. She requests no gifts. Hosts for the occasion are her children and her children's spouses: Pat and Tom Elarton, Derby; Keith and Barb Wineinger, Cawker City; and Bruce Wineinger, Raymore, Mo. A daughter, Beverly, died in 1984.

There are seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Born Mary Wilkinson Dec. 22, 1918, at Blackwell, the honoree married Leland Wineinger July 31,1938. He died in 1985. She has lived in Luray most of her life.

She and her husband owned and operated the Hotel for 24 years, and the Wineinger Service Station for 34 years, both in Luray. "One thing we're seeing across the board is that people are not necessarily giving tangible products," said Audrey Guskey, a marketing professor at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Guskey predicts shoppers will be practical, cutting back on ex- pensive items such as "People are not into Christinas shopping like they used to be," she said. "They're tired of the push. They're tired of the glitz. They're going to keep it simple."
