Decatur, Illinois Sunday, February 1, 1998 HOME E3 9 mi Qfcftfr? fewfiB Liner may be answer for dingy tub-shower i i i i i i i i City offers free mulch DECATUR Need mulch? The city forestry department has plenty, free for the asking. All that's required is to visit the forestry office at 2600 N. Jasper St. and fill out a release form. "Normally, we can deliver within 30 days," city forester Randy Cal-iison said.

The mulch results from the city's tree-trimming operations. "As we remove trees, we don't take anything to the landfill," Cal-lison said. "We try to give away all the wood product we can." He says mulch has been stockpiled over the past few months. The forestry office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

it tine TAX Installed I Full Time Service Dept. CP BONUS BONUS! i nmrouomoni Steel, cast iron and cultured marble tubs are cold and rob heat from the water. The acrylic systems retain heat three times longer than porcelain finishes. The wall liner is made of the same material as the tub liner and is installed directly over existing wall tile and unappealing grout, holes and all. This liner, designed to surround the area from the top of the tub to the desired height, is waterproof and eliminates the problems associated with replacing, re-grouting and sealing tiie.

Windows and unusual shapes are no problem with this system. THE WALL LINERS are manufactured in a variety of colors, and they are also available in a mar-bleized style. Accessories typically include a corner caddy, a recessed soap dish anda grab bar that can be installed in any location to customize your bath system. These acrylic tub and wall liners offer a relatively nondisrup-tive alternative to conventional bath remodeling. There is little of the noise and dust associated with conventional remodeling projects, and a professional can install one of these tub and wall liner systems, including drain and overflow cover, in less than a day.

That is considerably more attractive to many people than the typical two to three weeks it takes for a complete bathroom remodel. The price to line a standard tub and wall is less than $1,500. Robert A. Brobst, of Baths by Old Mill Construction in Winter Park, is a member of the Remodelers Council, an arm of the Home Builders Association of Mid-Florida. Box 211, Orlando, FL 32802-021 1. Personal replies are not possible. A-MQfiO 1 WITH THERMAL INSULATION PLUS SOLID BRASS SEAMLESS GUTTERS FOR ALL SIDING COVERALLS By ROBERT A. BROBST Knight-Ridder News Service Q. My bathroom has a tub with shower combination.

The tub is dull and scratched, the tiles on the shower walls are an unappealing mustard color, and the grout is not in the greatest shape. A few tiles have fallen off the wall, leaving holes. I had a new shower control installed when the house was re-piped last year. I've been told that the tub and tile can be painted, but I don't want to do that. I would rather replace the tub and tile.

Is there another option? A. You are better off replacing the tub and tile than refinishing them. This is especially true if the tub is porcelainized steel, not cast iron. Even if you refinish a steel tub, you still have a steel tub that is more likely than other materials to chip. If appearance is the only problem, and there is nothing structurally wrong with the walls, floor or existing plumbing of the bathroom, you do have an option.

You can install a Luxury Bath Systems tub liner over the tub and a wall liner over the tile. This new product, available through contractors, is a great solution for the problems and concerns you have described. The tub liners are custom molded to fit over an existing tub. They are made of a high-impact, scratch-resistant acrylic that is smooth, nonporous and easy to clean. This acrylic, which is more acid- and alkaline-resistant than porcelain, is low maintenance, and it is twice the thickness of acrylics used in most spa manufacturing.

SHOWER BASES from the same material have slip-resistant bottoms. They can be fabricated in the home and placed directly over existing terrazzo or tile. In new construction this wall system goes directly on top of the drywall, and new coordinating shower bases are installed. The durable acrylic surface will not chip, dent, crack or peel and is colorfast. Bathtub and shower pan colors include white, almond, gray and black.

The surface will not stain, yellow or fade. Unlike steel and cast iron, it feels warm when you touch it, requiring less hot water for that nice hot bath. 7 jurW Moundford WOODCREST APARTMENTSj Baths Porches I Complete Restorations Yards Cleaned Daily I Drywalling I Truly Seamless I Great Colors I No Leaky Joints I All Work Guaranteed 4j bonus!
