Fit Jonza said she had been deluged with calls about moving the two sci-fi shows earlier, and ratings numbers bore that out. This week also brought news of the cancellations of "Gabrielle" and "Charles Perez." The latter runs at 2:05 a.m. on WAND. "Ga-brielle's" last scheduled telecast is March 29.

Perez's is Jan. 26. WAND CHANGES: Esther Pierre is leaving WAND next week after eight months as reporter at the station. She goes to Edison, N.J., next month to start work at a new cable-TV news channel. It's a chance for the Connecticut native, who graduated in the spring from the former Sangamon State University, to be closer to her family.

New to WAND is Christina Jue, who began last month. Jue was a weekend news anchor and weath-ercaster at a station in Greenville, after graduating from Mississippi State University. David Burfce is a Herald Review staff writer whose TV and radio column appears Fridays. And that's meant they continued to watch WCIA (CBS, Champaign) for news and talk shows, although in some cases not as strongly as in past ratings periods. WCIA continues strong leads over WAND (ABC, Decatur) and WICS (NBC, Springfield) in news numbers at 6 a.m:, mid-day, 5 and 6 p.m., although WAND is making a strong run at 6 a.m. and finishing a strong second in its 5 p.m. newscast, beating out reruns of "Home Improvement." Here are the news ratings for Central Illinois for the November period.

In some cases, WRSP's (Fox, Springfield) ratings are also included. WICD (NBC, Champaign), which has a separate newscast from WICS, is also included. The two numbers listed are ratings and shares. A rating is the percentage of all homes watching the program; the share is the percentage of homes with the television on and watching. 6 a.m.

Viewers, station numbers crunchers agree, tend to watch the news emanating from their nearest town. Talk shows, game shows and soap operas, on the other hand, have no hometown loyalty just the loyalty of longtime viewing: "appointment television," as one local program director said. Here are some other local numbers, led by 6:30 p.m., where three out of four stations changed their shows to compete with WAND's "Wheel of Fortune." 6:30 p.m. "Wheel of 1527 "Inside Edition," WCIA 1119 "Seinfeld," WICS 1018 "Simpsons," WRSP 59 9 a.m. "Regis Kathie Lee," WCIA 739 "Jenny Jones," WAND 212 "Tempestt," WICS 15 10 a.m.

"Viewers of WCIA have been very, very supportive of CBS programming above and beyond the national numbers," general manager Robb Gray said. "There is more of a personal relationship with the viewers in Central Illinois than with any other station." SCHEDULE CHANGES: Besides the addition of "Jim J. Tammy Faye" on WAND and the upgraded times for "The Late, Late Show With Tom Snyder" and "George Alana" on WCIA's late-night schedule, there's only one more change being made this month. WRSP has returned "Babylon 5" to 9 p.m.

Sundays, followed by "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." New episodes of "Baywatch" 1 move to 11 p.m., followed by "Baywatch Nights."
