Del Rio News-Herald Monday, April 6, 1998 CRASH continued from 1 aircraft was seen on radar. It had been a long struggle from the moment 12 hours earlier when the aircraft plunged into the lake. "I came to and I instantly panicked because I was breathing water," she said Saturday from her bed at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La., a New Orleans suburb. "I was still buckled into my seat in Ihc plahe. After 1 got loose, I just started kicking my way up until 1 got to the surface." Ms. Rivera-Worley attributed her success in the water to her good physical condition and stamina, gained partially, she said, from having a swimming pool in her backyard. "I was wearing a hot pink T- shirt, and I thought, the more hot pink any rescuers could see, the better," she said. . "I did that float so they could see more of the hot pink T-shirt. [ would raise my head up and see if they were coming for me, and then 1 would do it again. I was like a needle in a haystack out there." Ms. Rivera-Worley said she cannot remember portions of the 12 hours she spent in the water. "I think I blacked out once I was out of the plane, because I was surprised how quickly daylight came." At one point during the night. she fiercely clung to what she thought was a soccer ball she found floating in the water — probably the float from a crab trap. Cardenas of Del Rio and Mr. and Mrs. Paul J Kneeskern also of Del Rio. They saw the need for a laundromat in that area. 'In researching the area and talking to residents of south Del Rio, we found that this type of service was desperately needed for folks who couldn't afford to go across town to wash clothes."
