That's exactly what happens this week on a new episode of "A Walk in Your Shoes" when a Protestant teen from outside Boston spends two days with a Muslim-American teen from New Jersey. It will be simulcast on Nickelodeon and Noggin at 7:30 p.m.

on Sunday, Feb. 10. As 15-year-old Nancy explores 13-year-old Mariam's lifestyle, she gets the chance to dispel misconceptions she's heard about Muslims and the Islamic faith. Still feeling the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks, Nancy begins the half-hour episode nervous about terrorism in the United States and wary about Muslims.

Friends of hers lost relatives in the collapse of the World to hold a monthly "Walk in Your Shoes" dinner. Research another culture and share information about it with your family. Cook the unique foods of that culture and practice its customs during your special evening. Find someone with whom your children might trade places for a day. Allow them to gain understanding by experiencing another neighborhood, culture, sport or school.

"It was all about peace and love and caring about each other. It was different from what I thought it would be," Nancy says as her visit ends. "On TV, they're always showing images of anger. But she was basically a teen-age girl like me."
