Sunday, July 18, 1999 THE FAMILY TREE MCCOLLUM Am searching for info on the Neal family of Lamar County, Texas. My gr- grandfather was James W. (Washington) Neai b. July 1863 in poss. Georgia or Ky.

and died June 1, 1927 Lamar County, Texas. He was found dead and had been dead for two weeks. He married Belinda Foutch (Melinda Fouts). Their children were: Dora Nora Bell, Mack McKinley, Lossie and John Cecil Neal b. April 21, 1891 Fort Smith, Ark.

and died April 5, 1965 Austin, Texas. He married Nancy Elizabeth Braswell. All we know is that James W. Neal put his children in the Masonic Home around the early I900's and by 1910 he had them again. In a family Bible belonging to my grandmother, it states for more info on John C.

Neal, contact Joe McCollums son, a lawyer in Paris, Texas. He raised him for many years. We have had no luck in contacting the McCollum family in Paris, Texas. One of his brothers, Lloyd Maytubby Moore (went by Button), was mayor of Roxton for quite some time. My grandmother, Elizabeth's, parents were Christopher Columbus Phillips (b. and Martha Ella Reeder Phillips (b. They were married on in Pecan Gap, Texas, Elizabeth only had one brother, Bernard. Many of the above mentioned people are buried in Roxton in the Restland Cemetery.

When his wife died, Andrew went back and married her sister (Mary Stone). Their first child was born in 1869. Census index lists an Andrew J.

Jewel Lee Whitten, m. Jam Willoughby, 7. "Little Brother" Whitten, died as an infant, Child of Richard Whitten and his second wife Dick Whitten, b. Aft. 1902.

Richard's parents were poor cotton sharecroppers who seemed to migrate back and forth across the Red River. "Sallie" Barron in Winston Co, MS in 1867. They are listed on the 1870 Winston, MS and the 1880 Choctaw, MS censuses with their four young children. They moved to the Red River Valley area of Texas some time after 1880 because in a Winston Co, MS land deed dated 1903, Mrs. Sallie Whitten listed her address as Delta Co, Texas. However, their son Dick Whitten is listed on the Lamar (Pet, married in Lamar Co'to Annie May Diggs on Nov 12, 1899.
