The great English calls it "old-fashioned death." But the old fashion is also the new, and neither the vigor nor valor of youth can resist it. This truth has again been sadly illustrated in the death last Friday evening, May 2lst, of Elmer G. Oldroyd, son of our esteem-townsman, C. W. Oldroyd.

E'mer was born in Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 31, 1809. He came to Kansas with his parents six years ago and has lived in Ottawa a large share of that time. His long and trying illness was borne with rare patience and cheerfulness. He met his death like a soldier and fought with a splendid courage to the very end.

So buoyant was his hopefulness that he was still painting bows of promise over the skies of the future wnen death struck tne brush from hjs nerveless grasp, pis own sufferings ii lie lost sight of in tnouentlulness forothers. often urging his devoted mother to let him care for himself. and pleading that she should not de-piive herself of social enjoyments on his account. He appreciated greatly the visits of his young friends and it must be a clad thoueht to them now that they helped make his last days bright. He was buried lst Sunday at 3 p.

m. from tbe First Methodist Episcopal church, Rev, C. Gullett conducting the funeral services. Very appropriately the last sad ofiices were performed as far as possible by his youthful associates. Six young men acted as pall-bearers and most excellent music was furnished by a Suartette consisting of Miss Lola ampbcll, Miss Cora Gill, Loyal Miller and Frank Acker, with Miss Maude Parmenter presiding at the prgan.

At thp graye eyen the hands of love must cease their ministry. We resign Elmer's strong, hopeful, bright, young spirit into the hands of the lather whose love is everlasting and whose mercy is infinite, and to the same Father we commend-his bereaved friends.
