6 The Commercial Appeal Memphis Sunday May 3 1981 Irish new wave at POE TS U-2 a hot new wave band from Ireland will make its Memphis debut Saturday night at POETS Music Hall The group which recently released its first album on Island Records will do one show at 10:30 pm Festival features shows A wide variety of performances will be featured at the second annual Arts Festival at St Episcopal Cathedral from 10 a to 4 pm Saturday The events will be presented in the cathedral in the parish hall and on the grounds of the historic church at Poplar and Orleans Admission is free Lunch and refreshments will be sold The festival is sponsored by the Cathedral Players St Mary's Episcopal Young Churchmen and Sunday School The approach is nondenominational and if last years's well-attended first festival is any sign the hundreds of children who turn out will represent diverse social racial and economic backgrounds from several different sections of Memphis Performers will include a group from Hendersonville Tenn called the Clown Ministry from the Church of St Joseph of Arimathea Other performances will be: A magic show by John Golwen Jim Crosthwiit's puppet show the Overton High School drama department's production of selections from the Poohr staged as puppet theater and directed by Quenten London a story teller and a production of The Knave of Hearts" directed by Ray Fuller from Memphis Children's Theatre Also "Friday Benjamin Britten's 12 children's songs with piano 191335) sung by a 27-voice ensemble of fourth- to sixth-graders from St Mary's Episcopal School directed by Anne Reiners with Betsy Moseley as pianist a Suzuki violin and piano recital coordinated by Linda Jackson and Libby Armour with nine young participants St John's Episcopal junior choir and Orff instrumental ensemble directed by Sandra Freund in three sacred songs Also St Mary's Cathedral children's choir of 29 voices directed by JoRe King in two anthems to be presented long with an organ recital by Joe A Morrow organist-choirmaster of the cathedral and a presentation of the collection of poems about and for children "Where The Sidewalk Ends" by the Catholic High School Players directed by Pat Stephen!
