So much for last winter. Now, the show season is opening nearly everywhere, and we see that numerous fine companies are out on the road. Several troupes have already been booked for Ottawa, and the prospect for other excellent ones is good. There is no reason why we should not have our share of the best companies at the Opera House. The reason why we do not is in a great measure because the idea has gone abroad that to show in the inter-state towns of Kansas means financial failure and loss of time.

Sealed proposals for supplying the school buildings of Ottawa, with coal and wood for the coming winter, will be received at the office of F. A. Wilkinson, clerk, until Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock, Sept. 19, 1883.

The amount required will be 3,000 bushels of coal more or less, and 15 cords of wood more or less. The coal must be of rood quality, and free from dust and dirt, and tne bid must state where mined, and the wood must be clear dry hickory.
