3S The Commercial Appeal Memphis Wednesday August 30 1978 Dixie Dialing New Aerials Going Up To Receive Channel 24 By JOHN KNOTT General manager John Serrao and his staff at the city's newest television station WPTY the ultrahigh frequency Channel 24 can be forgiven for being a bit smug these days They feel they don't need to worry about the reception the station will get from the public To get UHF on your television set you need a new aenal or possibly an adjustment on your present aenal You Just cant turn on a standard very high frequency (VHP) set and get UHF "The demand for aerials is so great that one supplier can't keep up with them The aerials are being flown into the Serrao reported supermarkets and auto stores are going to market at least one model something that never been done here Alfred Cowles Jr president of Bluff City Electronics reported the greet demand for add-on antennas costing about S16 Major orders have been received from Kroger 7-Eleven Super and Giant food stores Walgreen and Goodyear keep in Serrao said real promotion hasn't even started There has been lot of discussion about corner NBC has announced still another shakeup of Its prime time lineup The lone casualty was The Runaways which had been acheduled for 7 pm Tuesdays Its future is be NBC kicks off its season Sept 19 after a preview beginning Sept 5 and a starting Sept 11 To replace The Runaways NBC shifted another new series Grandpa Goes To Washington with Jack Albertson to the Tuesday time slot effective Sept A new NBC Wednesday Night at the Movies will fill the hole left by the switch of Grandpa The Wednesday night film will replace NBC planned Saturday Night at the Mii tea beginning Sept 20 Sword of Justice newcomer formerly planned for Fridays at 9 pm will move to Saturday nights at 9 starting Oct 7 A series of special presentations beginning Oct 14 and 21 with a two-part From Gilligan show will fill the remainder of the Saturday night schedule The Eddie Capra Mysteries scheduled for Sundays at 9 pm will replace Sword of Justice on Friday nights at 9 starting Sept 22 teaming with holdover Rockford Files in a two-hour mysteries movie slot Television Schedule tVS7J The Cast Of Channel 24 Hee Haw Honeys Clockwise From Left: Misty Rowe Kenny Price Gailard Sartain Lulu Roman Kathie Lee Johnson Tune In Tomorrow Pub Opening Draws CBS Soap Players congratulations Aniston venture however still has a few loopholes The kitchen won't open for a few more weeks and the pub will only be open half-days until then But for anyone who is a CBS soap star fan The Fives is the place to go for stargazing over dinner and drinks Send your questions about soap operas to Tune In Tomorrow in care of The Commercial Appeal 49! VHF television sets) has come from small outdoor antennas There are a lot of questions about the reception and antennas but when they turn that switch on Sept 10 all the answers will be there" Cowles said that some apartment complexes with master TV aerial systems may do some type of converting that would allow residents to receive WPTY on other channels WPTY planned to go on the air full time this Sunday but the opening date has been postponed until Sept 10 "We could have gone on" Serrao said it would have been spotty and we want to open with a first-class look which we will be able to do Sept A test pattern will be on the air either today or tomorrow and later WPTY plans to use its station character with the test pattern giving a countdown on days to go before it's on the air regularly The new station will offer what it calls "alternative" television If the other channels have sports it will have movies and vice versa It will run some syndicated shows never shown here and will run others that have been shown here in the past There will be some new shows One that Serrao is counting on to arouse high interest is Memphis Forum which likely will start the Sunday after the first day on the air Various timely topics will be discussed by principals an example would be Mayor Wyeth Chandler and leaders and members of the police and fire unions in their recent set-to Further the station would allow viewers to phone in and give their opinions On the first Sunday Sept 10 Fred Cook on a special called "Hello will spend 30 minutes telling just what the station plans and hopes to do in the way of programs One of the new shows is Hee Haw Honeys which makes its first appearance Sept 23 a Saturday It is a spinoff from Hee Haw which appears on Channel 3 on Saturdays Hee Haw comes on at 6 and fans who are wild about the Hee Haw stars can follow some of them at 7 pm on Channel 24 It is a half-hour musical comedy combining Hee Haw gags and country music in a cafe and
