Friendly of Eugene and their daughter, Mrs. Harris and son, are at the Moore. At Colonial hotel a merry party en joyed a late dinner recently where sea foods were enjoyed as the chief dish. Those present were Mr. and Mrs.

A. Magginls of Los Angeles arrived at the Torrey early in tne week and are to stay for the remainder of the summer. Mrs. E. W.

Such woods contribute to the many attractions that Gearhart has to offer. Back of the surf ana meadows at Gearhart. the full length of the beach, stretches a beautiful little wood throughout which are scattered attractive summer homes and cabins.

Every one Interested In Barview Is helping in the preparation for the coming visit of the Artisans. One of the largest crowds ever assembled on the beach, is expected here on the 16 th- when the Artisans will visit here, and everything possible is being done ot make their stay here a pleasant one. Few things in the way of entertain ment will larking, according to the committee In charge, and all visitors are assured of a good time. Rockaway. The largest crowd which ever vis ited Rockaway was entertained here last Sunday by the Hobo Round-Up, an annual event at this place.

There was music, sports and entertainment of all kinds to be enjoyed, and visitors were given a sample of Rockaway hospitality. All visitors report a mighty enjoyable day, and promised to be back next year, with their friends. me next event of Interest here Is the society circus, which will be held August 81, 22 and "23. This was a big success last year, and the committee says that this year's circus will put last year show in the shade so it will probably be some attraction. Mrs.

Gibson and party, who have been enjoying the summer at Fern cottage, have returned to their homes In Portland. L. T. Wilcox is making preparations to build on his Seavlew lot' In the near future. L.

J. A. Hoffman of Hillsboro was a week end visitor here. F. S.

Whttehouse ana family of Forest Grove are camping here and will remain for the rest of the season. Union church will be dedicated here on August 16. Many preachers from Portland and other places will be present. This church is of interest to all church goers who come to the beaches for the summer, as it is the only place of worship on the beach. A. Hamilton and family are occupying a camp here for a few weeks. Harry Brown has returned to Portland after a pleasant week's visit with Frank Beatty. W. B.

Tlbbets is carrying on negotia tions for the purchase of the Hotel Rockaway. He plans to remodel the building, refurnish it and make many Improvements. A bus will meet all trains and the service promises to be of the best.

The Colonial has bees the name selected for the new place. A new organ and set of lights have been Installed In the new church. Mrs. L. Olsaver and son, who have been entertained at Mrs.

Chown returned ddrtng the week to their Portland home after a 10 days' stay at. the Elmore. Mr. Chown was mighty reluctant to leave, for the day before going home he bagged 28 pounds of fine trout. He says he is going to sneak away from home again In the near future and get some more.

W. W. Rosebraugh and family, of Salem, have set up a pretty camp on McNaers and will stay for the rest of the season. John T. Stoneroad and wife have returned to Portland after a pleasant stay at the Elmore.

Mr. Stoneroad has invested in five acres near the lake and is planning on building a big hotel, the finest on the beaches surrounding here, also a big dance pavilion on the lake. J. R. Barker and wife and Miss Fleming are spending a dandy outing here.

Ho D. Murfleld and Helen Sundt will arrive during ths week from Newport to spend the rest of the season here. J. T. Conway and sister, of St.

Paul. are occupying Shamrock cottage. O. A. Wehrung, president of the Hillsboro National, la a guest at the Elmore for a few days.

C. Utter and family, of Fort-land, are occupying one of the camps at Harts Content. Mrs. Edward Seebera is enjoying a few days' vacation at this place. Mrs.

Witt and family have returned to Portland after a two weeks ontJng here. Mrs. Day is camped here agate after an abeehce of two years. Mr. Holbert and family ars camping on ths ridge overlooking ths upper end of the lake.

Mr. Sutherland and family, of Portland, have returned home after a few weeks spent at Harts Newton Clark and family, ef Portland, and Mrs. Braeselton, of Portland, have opened Rambler cottage for the rest of the season. Mr. Kltzmiller and family, of Portland, have pitched a pretty camp on the lower end of the tract.

W. Henkle returned to Corvallls this week after spending several weeks In their summer cottage here. R. Howard of Portland was arrested laKt week by the game warden for shooting sea gulls, but was set free 'as the warden had no gulls as evidence though he arrested Howrd la the act of shooting at them. Mr.

Howard, who" is spending his vacation here. Is thankful the law requires evidence of this nature. Mrs. 8. A.

8. Between Sea side, on Clatsop beach. Elk Creek and Warrens, on Cannon beach, and Neah-Kah-Nie and Nehalem in the Tillamook country there is an almost continuous procession of little caravana of "hikers" dally. Recently a party of women completed the walk from Newport to Seaside in less than 10 days. The youngest hiker to make a rec canicum, just back of the ocean, on Sunday evening.

In H. W. Stone's Russell tBrougher took charge of the building ef the fire and In directing the exercises. Mrs. E.

N. Wheeler and Mrs, Charles Hubbard rendered a beautiful duet. Mr. and Mrs. Van Nice gave a special arrange ment of "Jesus Lover of My Soul." while Miss Brougher entertained the merry crowd with a special reading, "Naughty Zell." The bonfire was very large, the crowd very enthusiastic, so the best of times was enjoyed, but all bore a religious atmosphere.

After a month's stay at their ocean front cottage, Mrs. E. B. MacNaugh-ton and family have returned to their Portland home. At the Saturday evening dance at the Gearhart hotel a large and merry crowd was present, and one of the best times ever had was enjoyed.

The music, furnished by the "Philharmonic Trio," was worthy of praise, and the decorations were In harmony with the beauty of the hotel dining rooro, where the dance was held. The dangerous trip In a Peterbor ough canoe from Gearhart to Seaside was recently made by James Fulton, former swimming instructor at the Gearhart natatorium. Fulton made the trip alone, taking the canoe out from shore and landing at Seaside Just below the pier. The sea was rough and the trip extremely dangerous, but Fulton got in safely. Mrs.

Everett Ames and family are returning the' first of the. week to their Lovejoy street residence, after a pleasant month's stay at Gearhart. Mr. and Mrs. A.

N. Com ton and two sons, Robert and Arthur are spend ing August at the Plumber cottage. D. p. Price will return to his Port land business after a pleasant week's vacation with his wife and children at their summer home in the Meadow.

Of wide interest to many hotel guests at the Gearhart was the golf putting contest held Saturday evening in the card parlors. Thirty took part In the game which offered much amusement for 'all. The annual golf tournament at Gearhart Is to be staged this year, on August 8 to 21, inclusive, and promises to be one of the biggest and best held at this coast links. Many worth while prizes are to be presented. Golf enthusiasts of the Waverly course and Astoria will try their skill on the course, and promise an Interesting contest.
