Reynolds Death Mutes Music Of Ivory Joe Hunter Ivory Joe Hunter, who wrote and recorded the hit song "Since I Met You, Baby," died at 1:55 p.m. Friday at NHE-Memphis Nursing Home.

The 63-year-old composerpianist had been undergoing treatment for lung cancer since December. He was brought to Memphis from Monroe, where he had been receiving treatment. He wrote between 2,000 and 3,000 songs, includimg "My Wish Came True," "I Need You So," "Ain't That Lovin' You, Baby" and "I Almost Lost My Mind." He was born in Kirbyville, Texas, and began his recordin g. career in Oakland, in 1937 after playing in honky-tonks in Texas. He recorded "Since I Met You, Baby" in 1956 for Atlantic Records.

It was Hunter's and the company's first million seller. "I Almost Lost My Mind" earned him a gold record award in 1956. It was the second time the song had brought him fame. In 1950 he was named the best blues artist and the song was acclaimed record of the year. "But he wasn't a rhythm and blues manager Bettye Berger said.

"Growing up in the backwoods of Texas, he was close to country. But when he started recording, blacks couldn't do country, so they called it blues." His final album will be maleased soon, on the Para- Memphian Dies In Texas Motel Jimmy Ray Langford, 26, of 4034 Berkshire died early Friday, apparently of an overdose of drugs in a San Antonio, Texas, motel room, San Antonio police said yesterday. (UPI)-The American Medical Association is now willing to support legislation requiring employers to offer health insurance to their workers. Support for such required coverage would represent a sharp shift from the voluntary tax credit approach in the AMA's Medicredit plan pending in Congress. Through election defeats and congressional retire- ments, AMA lost at least 54 and possibly 56 Medicredit supporters. This would still leave 126 co-sponsors, the highest number of congressional supporters for any pending health insurance bill, according to a statement issued here Friday by AMA headquarters in Chicago. "We do not expect to feel lost, neglected, unloved or abandoned in the new Congress," the statement said.

Dr. Russell Roth, AMA's immediate past president and chief health insurance spokesman, said: 'I still think the tax credit approach is certainly an acceptable way, but we would be foolish not to consider mandated coverage." The AMA statement offered the first explanation of what type of "mandated" coverage the AMA would be willing to support. "The AMA is willing to consider a national health insurance program that would require employers to offer voluntary health insurance to their employes," the statement said. "This concept is known as mandated national health insurance. It is not compulsory national health insurance, a point on which there seems to be considerable confusion." AMA remains opposed to what it.

termed compulsory insurance which would require workers to accept the health care benefits provided by their employers, the statement said. 60 Professors Quit Over Uruguay Oath MONTEVIDEO, Nov. (UPI) --About 60 professors at the Uruguayan Medical School have offered their resignations rather than sign a loyalty oath, medical sources said. The oath swears allegiance to the democratic republican system of government, and affirms that the signer has never belong. ed to organizations dissolved by the present government or any other organization that attacks the present system of government.
