Get Ready For Big Convention Jehovah's Witnesses made good use of the holiday weekend to further preparations for the Watch Tower Convention, July 11-14. The home of Anthony Kostiuk, McSween Road, was the scene of a construction program last Saturday, June 29, when 35 carpenters representing Vancouver, Surrey, Abbotsford as well as Chilliwack gathered to construct tables and benches as well as a 20 ft.

by 40 ft. platform to be erected later at the Coliseum. Peter Nelson, in charge of construction, said much was accomplished but it will take another "bee" next Saturday to meet the construction requirements for this convention. A house-to-house canvass for accommodations continues with many Witnesses coming from all points of the Valley to help with this work. Eleven hundred accommodations have already been filled but requests continue to pour in to the convention headquarters.

Youth Teams Visit Homes In City Eighteen young people, associated with the "Youth with a Mission" interdenominational movement, called on homes in the city area last week in a program of Christian witness. During their stay here, they used the Pentecostal Tabernacle, Young Street South and Second Avenue, as their headquarters. Many of the young people are from the United States, and they are spending their summer on Christian witness work in various communities. They were billeted here in homes of members of the Pentecostal Tabernacle congregation. Training sessions were conducted in Abbotsford churches. Zoning Change Considered A proposal to allow duplexes in single-family areas, providing they meet certain conditions and do not come closer than within 600 feet of each other in any one block, is to be followed up by city council. The suggestion was made by city planner Gary Harkness. Alderman Ray Daubney told last night's council meeting that he had held discussions with Mr. Harkness, who explained that the 600-foot ruling was made in view of average lot sizes in the Lower Mainland.

Mr. Harkness also felt that the possibility of four duplexes at an intersection would be "extremely said Alderman Daubney. A bylaw amendment will be brought in for the council's consideration.
