Dollars And Sense By Ed Baskeyfield CREDIT CARDSADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES The Advantages: 1. They are convenient and comparatively safe. They reduce the need to carry much cash or keep it around the house.

2. Bookkeeping is simpler. You receive only one bill and write only one check, instead of several, for your credit purchases. 3. You can take advantage of special sales even when your cash and checking balances are temporarily low.

4. You can take care of an emergency expense immediately and postpone paying for it until the next billing period or longer, if you're willing to pay the interest. 5. With so many stores honoring credit cards, you have ready credit nearly everywhere, instead of having to apply for it. 6.

The charge slips and receipts make good expense account and tax records. 7. Bank credit cards charge no yearly fee and no interest if you pay within the regular billing period. The disadvantages: 1. The big one, as with all credit, is that credit cards are easy to use; unless you keep careful control, you may overextend yourself.

2. If you don't pay your bill by the due date, you are charged interest-11 Per Cent a month or 18 Per Cent a year. At the same time, the Foreign Ministry notified the American Embassy that U.S. consular officials would not be allowed to visit Rosemary Conway, 35, of San Jose, Calif. and Chicago, who has been detained by police since June 5, while interrogation of the former teacher continued. A government spokesman, in response to a query, said 300 military policemen, formerly aligned for rightist government, "boarded three government planes for Muong Vient Say, about 18 miles northeast of the Pathet Lao capital of Sam Neua. The spokesman said police officers would remain at Muong Vieng Say for three to six months and another 300 officers would follow shortly.
