The Italian people, many of whom wore black clothing or black arm bands for the occasion, observed Armistice Day one week ahead of the Americans, since they ended hostilities with the Germans seven days before the end of World War I. Born in Port Allegany 39 years ago, Gen. TJpthegrove graduated from Bradford High school in 1922 and West Point Acadeirjy in 1927. He is a veteran of over 4 009 air hours and has been decorated with the Silver Star, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cites with one Cluster, and the Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Clusters.
