A riuiky Kansas Widow Will Try to Save Women Outlaws. Mr4 Ruth Bronson, the philanthropic little widow who has taken upon her- self (e task of reclaiming the female outlats of Oklahoma, started Sunday night If rom Wichita, for Phila-delphn to secure the co-operation of easterii women in her work. She will appeal principally to societies of Quakers. She will also visit Attorney General Rrmon today the case before him, as shi claims that female outlaws are made through the hectoring of the army deputy United States marshals that continually' riding the territory nting for criminals. These men, she sji's, receive as compensation for their strvics the costs allowed by law, and it is, therefore, to their interest to male as many arrests as possible.

WThen jthey cannot get the criminals they alrest their friends for harboring them o' otherwise persecute them. The result that young' country girls fre-quentl; resist the officers and the act makes outlaws. Once proclaimed they become desperate, and not inpequently help the actual outlaws ii order to spite the officers that have persecuted them. As evidence of this, Mrs. Bronson says that female outlaw exist only where United States deputy marshals have the execution of the lavs.

There are now seven female outlawi, or "femaleandits," as they are caled, in the federal jails of Oklahoma, nd twice as many at large hiding ariong S3rmpathizers in remote places. Maud Clark, one of the latter, told story to Mrs. Bronson, who lives ai Woodward, and it was so touching that Bronson decided to investigate several cases, and found all of- them cf similar origin, their trouble being traced directly to the hectoricg tendencies of the deputy marshals. She proposes to expose the matter, 'or, as she expresses it, to turn the. searchlight on the government sys'tem of executing law in Oklahoma.

"I am unknown," she said, "and therefore cannot do much, but I think I can interest the women of the east in the matter, and by their influence secure at least an investigation of the work of the deputy marshals." Mrs. Bronson. is a little woman, with a good deal of "grit." She- is educated and refined. She does not recommend leligion as a means of reclaiming the outlaws. "They felt that they have been driven beyond the pale of the law by the deputies," she says, "and when they find out that the government will show an inclination to stop the prevailing method of breeding outlaws among the ycung women of Oklahoma they will then be reclaimed of their own desire, for none of them that I know is wicked by nature or inclination." DIFFCULT TASK How a Steel King: Weighing: Was Blade Many Tons The steel ring for generator No.

3 at the Niagara Power company's new plant is now at the shop of the West-ingbouse company, and is attracting great deal of attention from steel men, as well as from electricians. It is regarded as one of the very finest pieces of work ever turned out. It was forged at Bethlehem, Pa. The ring is considerably the largest of the kind ever cast. It is 11 feet IVz inches in, diameter, about 5 feet high and weighs 27,000 pound3.

It cost over $8,000. The making of the ring was an exceedingly difficult task. A nickel steel ingot Ay2 feet in diameter at the bottom and Qy2 feet long was jcast. A hole was then bored through it lengthwise. A- block of the proper weight was then cut from the ingot, and the cylinder thus obtained was heated and, under a hy draulic pressure of 14,000 tons, was expanded to the present size.

It would be just like cutting from a lead pencil a section half an inch long, boring the lead out of it and then expanding the wood to a ring an Inch in diameter. The ring had to be forged to a perfect circle, and in such a as to prevent the possibility of weakness in any part, for, when the tremendous pressure of Niagara is brought to bear on the turbine, which will turn the ring, it will revolve around the armature at the rate of 250 revolutions, per minute. The electrical energy thus obtained will be 5,000 horse power. Advertising Himself. An Ohio revivalist named Jonas appears to have gone into the business of reviving as a profession.

His "ad" in the paper declares that "he has a strong voice and is able to speak to the largest audiences at grove meetings. He is not backward about speaking twice a day where opportunity is afforded. His heart is fuil of the work and he is anxious to reach people with his message of deliverance. He can preach on Sundays as well as talk politics on week days. He is a very efficient revivalist.

He has a wonderful faculty of entertaining, holding and convincing audiences and can speak in the same place night after night with continually increasing attendance." The Ifouse Ran Away. Tae other day house movers In South Orange, N. were toting a house along a street. They came to a sharp descent in the street. There the house started off.

without urging, ran over the end of the skids and went to ruin in the road. The house, was an old frame structure, with its walls filled with brick, and it made a complete and picturesque wreck. gPOTATOES FOR PENWIPERS. A. Milwaukee Hotel-Keeper Uses the Irish. Vegetable for Such Purpose. One of the Milwaukee hotels uses a bushel of potatoes a year, one at a time, for penwipers on the desk fn the office.

Every morning a potato as big as an apple is put in a compartment of the pen box, and after twenty-four hours the potato is removed and another is put in says the Sentinel. Pens in pen-v holders are stuck into the potato, a half-dozen at a it the appearance of a porcupine. When a man registers he "finds the pen there. During the year 365 potatoes, and on leap years 366, are furnished to tte public at this hotel as pen-wipers. The potatoes are bought in open market with due regard for their globular iorm; the Early Rose and Kidney Flake being the varieties chosen when they can be obtained.

It is claimed by those who pretend to know all about potatoes and pens that a potato pen-wiper is the best preservative-against rust and mildew that can be secured for the pens, and that the sponge used by some hotels and shot used by others are not comparable to potatoes for efficacy. Sponges, it is claimed, rust the pens, and shot does not absorb the ink rapidly enough to prevent it from clotting and spoiling the point, A hotelkeeper in speaking of the reason why he did not like shot for an ink-absorber, said: "Shot is ail right as tar as me pens are concerned, but the reason I object to it is that there are so iy sportmen around, who are always ready to take a handful of bird shot for future reference. I used shot on my hotel counter for a few years, but gave it up because twenty pounds of bird shot was used up during one woodcock season. The shooting men came and took the shot before our very eyes, and laughed at us when we asked them to leave the shot in the pen box." -A Reunion of Giants. There was a family reunion at Tion-esta.
