Doesn't tbs press get free ducats to sll entertainments at the theaters in Memphis or do they have to pull something like this In order to see the 8 CRULL Answer-1 found Miss Sands a very good 28-Ole Miu ploying the port of a slumbering giant in the first half awoke with vengeance in the latter stagee of the game with Clemson here today and crashed the South Carollnana IS to 0 Governor Conner of Mississippi was the distinguished guest in a crowd of more than 5000 that saw a hard fought football game the feature attraction of Lauderdale County's centennial celebration The victory was Ole Miss' fourth and the team still has a record clear of defeats 'George Gunter a shifty halfback from Kilmichael Miss scored both Ole Min touchdowns in the early Sart of the fourth quarter and Bill lichardson of Philadelphia Miss added ono extra point with a placement Clemson just ss big as Ole Miss wss just as good in tho first half holding a slight edge In the play and causing a bit of uneasiness among the Ole Min followers But there wss no ground for fear the Red and Blue looked like a new team when they took the field in the second half and Clemson gradually pushed back into their oWn territory yielded the first udai down grudgingly then collapsed in the face of a spirited Ole Miss attack Scores Follow Drives The scoring plays came as climaxes to relentless driving brilliant running and heady generalship on the part of Pete Ruby Ole Miss quarterback The stage for both was set by a play as old as a forward lateral pass that Clemson seemed wholly unable to solve and on both occasions when' it worked left them in a hole from which they could never emerge Ole Miss started driving for a touchdown late in the third period from their own 35-yard line They earned a first down on their own 45 on a short pass and a couple of drives at the line by Earl Hutson Then came the first of the forward laterals Ruby flipped a quick pais to Monk Montgomery on end Montgomery turned and heaved laterally to Gunter coming wide around end and Gunter stopped until he reached Clemson's 30-yard line Clemson clearly taken back yielded another first down on punches at the line by Rab Rodgers Gunter and Hutson Continuing their battering Hutson with tremendous drive carried the ball to Ctemson's five-yard line Hutson tried twice and take it over so Gunter on a doubles pass cut between right guard and tackle to score standing up tlrnison Trice Pan Clemson seeing the game slip away tried a pass right after the kickoff and the ball slipped out of JLynn's hands into tho eager ones of Rab Rodgers who was downed on Clemson's 43 and Ole Miss wss on their way again The forward intcral was trotted nut this time with Rodgers taking the backward toss from Montgomery to run the ball 15 yards to 30 Hutson passed to Ruhy for nine and rammed a first down on the 20-yard line to act the stage for the longest run of the and the scoring play Ru luby took the ball from renter handed it to Hutson who started for Clemson's left tackle As he did Gunter generating speed came around fast and with Ruby doing some super blocking skirted Clemson's right enil for the touchdown running 20 yards and having to evade but one tackier so good was the blocking and so smooth tho deception There wasn't any more but there was one play for the book Tex Nelson Ole Miss center hacked up and intercepted a pass from Woodward No ball rarrirr Tex looked around spied Chester Curtis tossed him a lateral and Curtis returned the ball to mid field on a 10-ynrd dash Recounting the buret of action crowded into the final 17 minutes doesn't tell the story of a valiant Clemson defense In the -irst half that stopped virtually everything Ole Miss had and of a Clemson attack led by a flnn back Henry Woodward that went as far ns Ole 30-yard line in tho second quarter The Tigers finding Ole Miss sluggish pressed things In a manner that made them look dangerous-hut the OlS Wins metamorphosis of tho second half took all of the sting out of Jess Neely's team's rttneir and oil but caved their sturdy deftnre Olo Miss floes Over The 233 yards Ole Miss made from Rcrlmmoge wore mostly garnered In tho second hnlf Clemson could account for but 114 yards on running nnd parsing plays Ole Miss mnds 12 first downs to Clemson's four It was only In punting that Clemson had a marked superiority John Troutman booting the ball far and li ng and with fine direction It was this rangy tackle and his running mnte I Brown who paved a bulwark on defense for the Tigers stopping plHy after play until the end Woodwnrd was Clemson's best running back and McGbwn played fine defense football Pats Ruhy In addition to running the Ols Miss team well played a remarkable brand of football barking up the line handled the ball beautifully and blocked like nobody's business Brarl White Ole Miss star balfbnrk played but part of the game and Gunter and Rab Rodgers and Hutson took over the running honors Hutson generated plenty of power in his smacks at the llna with them a supply of the red ap-6 pics THE KING OF BEGGARS This ragged representative of royalty is a true king and ruler of the Guild of the city of Canton China just happened Had someone in Memphis got their picks in first it would have been loo had for our Tri-State friends a solution that might help in the future Most of the contestants that would derive any benefit from tho tickets to various games get their paper tho same day as ones in the city They loss time In having to mail the "picks" to town I know that the Tri-State edition is different in some respects from the rity My suggestion Is that you publish your pick In the Tri-Staie edition on Tuesday so that they can bo in the mail on that dny and arrive Wednesday Use some sort of distinguishing feature such as printed at tha top This would prevent Memphians from grabbing the early edition because if a Memphis pick had a Tri-State on it it could be thrown out My explanation may not be so rlcsr but if you concentrate on it perhaps you can see through it A wooden nickel should be given those who shout the in last week's contest I did murh hotter on those then I did on the rest
