Funeral will leave tbe house, Wst Philadelphia street, at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon Interment at St. Mary's cenie- tery, ot lug for the retnrn of tbe long expec td Star of Bethlehem. It appeared last in the constellation Cassiopeia, in by its unusual brilliance aoen attracted the eyes of thousands. It was first seen on tba 11th of 5 ovmber and increased ia magnitude until ths middle of Dciber, theu began to fade aud linallj disappeared iu thi fallowing May. It is recorded that a bright siar was eeu in tbe aaaie constellation in I'M, uud again still earlier in 915.

It will thus be seen that the interval of time between 1.171 aud 1204 was 30 years; and from L'tU to back to 913 waa 819 years, making the average period of the star to be 313.5 rs. It probably appeared in the 7th century between the years 62H and 632, and in the 4th century between 312 aud 316, from which time one more period would place (tat tile beginning of the Christian era. Counting from il.4 lt apjiearauce in 1572, 3135 years would bring us to the middle of KW, hence we may reasonably expect to behold it at auy time. Tbe constellation, Cassiopeia, iu which it is expected, is now tn tbe northwestern skv, directly opposite the great Citper iu the Northeast. It has au outline of five bright stars which make a figue somewhat like a chair, or au inclined thus It is not certain that tbe star may returu, as any one af many causes may prevent Hs reappearance, us (1) if a sun its supply of light and heat may have given out uud if so it iedesd like the moot, (2) if moving in au irregular orbit it may be ubtold millions of miles distant in another system.

(3) It may have beeu attracted from a regular orbit by other great bodies and is now moviug away never to returu. The probabilities are, however, that it has kept its supply of light, is moving iu a regular elliptical orbit, aud will soon appear to gladden tbe eyes of the world. Pole. A challenge bus been received by the Keystone polo club from a team iu Baltimore. It appears that the York "dudes" are getting their name up as polo players and heavy hitters.

The York club goes to Lancaster next Wedn sday te play the return game with the club of that place aud to Harrisbnrg the following Mouday. We hope tbey may be lucccssful iu both games. at. Valraliae's Ua; To-day is St. Valentine's Day.

The cut torn of sending valeutines is attributed by some writers to a practice prevalent iu ancieut Rome during February, wheu, among other name ot young womeu were placed iu a box, from which they were takeu by young uiou as chance directed, aud the girl so chosen was, lor the time being, the chooser's valentine. Other writers say the custom was started for the purpose of recalliug to mind tbo virtues of St. Vulentiue, a good bishop, who was beheaded in the reign of the Emperor Claudius. In early time presents of jewelty, gloves and garters were sent as valentines. TKMTl.TIOltli BENEFIT Tl I a si KTITIA J.
