At CONNIE LANGFORD Connie Langfbrd Granted Degree At Texas Tech Connie Langford was graduated from Texas Tech University School of Business in commencement ceremonies Saturday morning May 15, in the coliseum auditorium. She was granted a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in marketing. Dr. Carl H. Sten, dean of the School of Business, presented the degrees.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Langford. At Tech, Miss Langford belonged to the American Marketing Association and was on the Dean's List for the last semester. She will be employed by J.C.

Penney in its management training program in the Amarillo store. A graduate of Wellington High School, Miss Langford attended West Texas State University two years before transferring to Tech. In Lubbock, she was employed at Dillard's. While in high school, she worked at The Wellington Leader. Attending her graduation were her and brother, Mr.

and Mrs. Langford and Eddie Langford; her grandmothers, Mrs. Mary Belew and Mrs. Euby Langford. Other relatives going were Mr.

Assiiting in our craft room Tuesday morning were Mrs. Anna Lovett and Mrs. JuanHa Smith. Tuesday afternoon Singa-tong was conducted by Mrs. Ruth Wilhelm, and Mrs.

Betty Derryberry. Wednesday afternoon Bible study was conducted by Rev. Tom Thomson and other members of the First United Methodist Church. Wednesday evening the Church of Christ children did a beautiful job singing for us. Friday evening the singing of the Lighthouse Quartet was enjoyed by our residents.

Sunday morning Bible study was conducted by Minister Garell Forehand and other members of the Church of Christ. Sunday afternoon Bible study was conducted by Rev. Tom Thomson and other members of the First United Methodist Church. OUR VISITORS: Visiting Mrs. Ethel Michael were a sister-in- law, Mrs.

Beatrice Wells of Ft. Stockton, a sister Mrs. Leona Martin of Idalou, and her grandchildren Mr. and Mrs. Charles Michael, Jr.

of Goodwell, Ok. Mrs. Virginia Maxwell of Amarillo visited her mother Mrs. Jessie Bledsoe, and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Edna Maxwell.

E.W. Clement of Mangum visited his mother Mrs. Alma Clement. Visiting Mrs. Flossie Neeley were her sister Mrs.

Jewell of Amarillo, and a niece Mrs. Eula Lee Brown also of Amarillo. Lois Hanes of Missouri visited his mother Mrs. Emma Hanes. Mrs.

Lorene Liner of Alton Belew and Wesley of Plainview. Benson and a niece Ms. Pauline Benson both of Shamrock. Ewell Darrow, Dozier Farm Leader, Dies Ewell E. Darrow, 64, a lifelong resident of the north part of the county, died Thursday morning, May 13, in St. Anthony's Hospital, Amarillo after an illness of three years.

His home was at Dozier, where he was a farm and community leader. He had farmed in the north part of the county throughout his adult life. His community leadership extended into many activities and was centered first at Dozier, then at Samnorwood. Mr. Darrow was also an active member and leader in Samnorwood Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and song leader.

He was a member of Samnorwood Lions Gub, on the board of directors of the Shamrock Farmers Co-op Gin. Born in the Nicholson community, June 7, 1917, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Roland L. Darrow.

He was married to Dorothy Seichrist of Dozier on July 24, 1938, in Sayre, Ok. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 15, in First Baptist Church, Shamrock. Officiating were the Rev. Lee Hillon, associate pastor of Bykota Baptist Church, Amarillo, and a former pastor of Samnorwood Baptist Church, and the Rev.

Alma Barber of Vallejo, Ms. Alice Barrett of Tulsa, Mrs. Willie Mae Massey of Slaton, Mrs. Bessie Washburn of Odessa, and Mrs. Edna Dorsey of Tulia; one brother, Les Darrow of Shamrock and 6 grandchildren.

Betew, May 17. GIRL SCOUT NEWS Quivira Council held its annual Girl Scout Junior Camporee from April 30 to May 2. Three troops from Wellington participated. These were the 4th, 5th and 6th grade troops. The 7th and 8th grade cadet scouts also attended, but were not eligible for the competition.

Instead, they helped in planning activities and in supervising the younger scouts. The girls were judged on their camping skills in five areas-knives and knots, flags and first aid, lashing, compass and trail signs, and fires. Campsites were also judged. Girl Scout Troop No. 80 (5th grade) from Wellington placed first in the advanced competition.

Wellington's 6th grade troop placed second. The 4th grade placed 4th in Beginners. Kristy Settle received her Silver Award in a special ceremony on Sunday morning. The Silver Award is the highest achievement possible for a Cadet Scout, and Kristy is the first girl in our council to earn the award. Weekend activities began with setting up camp on Friday evening.

The skills judging was held on Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon was devoted to making sage candles, visiting other campsites, and playing games. On Saturday night the girls gathered for the traditional ceremonial campfire, tor which each troop brings a special log to be burned. Awards were handed out at this time. A Scout's Own was held Sunday morning, followed by the presentation of Kristy Settle's award and a special ceremony during which Wellington's 6th grade troop flew up from Junior Scouts to Cadet Scouts.

Campsites were cleaned and inspected, Girls attending with Troop No. 80 were: Misty Burge, Lyndy Forrester, Jodi Hunnicutt, Dana Isaacs, Carrie Langford, Dione Moore, Angie Nevarez, Valerie Noakes, Patti Powell, Jonny Settle, Kristy Settle, and Shelly Thomas. The first stop was at the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum, and from there the students went to Palo Duro State Park for their picnic lunch. They hiked, went down the Devil's Slide and rode the Sad Monkey Train.

Eighth graders chose this as an educational trip. Sponsors were Junior High Principal Bob Allen, and sponsors Ronny Williams and Wanda Cardwell.
