to 2 and Tech High beat Humes by the onesided score of 59 to 0 in a doubleheader yesterdav at Hodges Field One of the best crowds of the year approximately 2500 witnessed the C-South High game which was last on the programme The field was in good shape and the day was fine for football Although won as wae expected the fact that they failed to make a larger score was disappointing While had possession of the ball most of the time the wearers of the Purple and Gold failed to show any signs of their real strength and apparently did not use their best plays Every now and then backs got away- for a neat gain Ernie Marquette captain and quarter particularly starred Marquette played his best game of the season The line did not display a eon-sis'ent drive and looked weaker defensive-ly than in any previous game The victory kept (Vs slate clear of defeat The Purple and Gold eleven has been tied twice but has not been beaten this year scored In the second quarter The opening period ended with holding the ball on South High's one-yard line and Ames Sharp half carried it over on the next play Cummings kicktd goal There was no more scoring In thd first half tallied again in th third quarter when Hale passed to Marquette who was tackled hut got away and barely went over the line for a touchdown This time Cummings failed to register the extra point South High fighting hard all the way through although at times clearly showed real superiority played heads up football and snagged Cavette behind the (' goal In the last quarter for a safety when Russell center made wild pass Cavette the mainspring of the South High eleven last year did little gaining against his former school He played less than a half He looked good on the defense hut had few opportunities to show his offensive ability as Marquette gave the red head the ball-carrying assignment only a few times It was quite evident that Cavqtte was being saved for the Central game Thanksgiving South High ever witnessed on Razorback field The tilt was the final hom gam of the Porker season and also their final game of the conference season The game produced an outstanding brilliant star In the person of George Cole Bauxite sophomore who is blazing quite a trail In his first year of varsity competition To Cole goes much of the glory of the victory for It was by virtue of his unerring toe that the Porkers accumulated their nine points and victory Three times Cole dropped back to try for a field goal from placement and each time his effort was successful Each successive kick came from a greater distance the first from the 23-yard line the second from the 37 End the' final from the 40-yard line Each try went squarely over the middle of the 1 ar It was Cole's too that drove back a threatening Tiger on several occasions his 13 punts averaging 46 yards each YYhile Cole drew the share of the honors much credit must go to three other members of the Arkansas backfield Dhonau the midget quarterback Smith fullback and Chlpman halfback Eaoty of them tor off many good gains It was Dhonau who returned an Aggie punt for more than 30 yard and placed the ball in position where Cole could kick The Arkansas line especially Capt Scott Japp Rose and Herman Boozman continued their wonderful defense and halted Aggie marches time and again once on their two-yard line Bowman was the big star of the Aggie offensive and made many gains over the Kazorbacks one of his plungi and runs netting them 35 yards on the first play cf the game after kickoff In the third period just after the final Arkansas field goal a Porker fumbled the kickoff and Mitchell covered the hall on 21-yard line On the first play Bowman twisted his way around left end lor a touchdown and McCoy kicked goal giving the Aggies all their points for the day The last quarter was a see-saw affair with first ono and then the other team threatening to score The Aggies unleashed ono aerial attack that fell far short of completion Arkansas upset forecasts of the game and depended only on straight football to carry them through They only tried four passes completing one for a four-yard gain while the Aggies attempted 22 with only five completions for a gain of 49 yards The Aggies registered seven first downs to five punts averaged 45 yards while McCoy Aggie kicker averaged 35 yards on 11 kicks in the matter of
