The Scouts pitched in served themselves and had a perfectly marvelous time Sunday afternoon there suddenly descended uDon us 31 people from West Plains Mo They had driven down to Hardy to see the camps and to swim in Spring River We took them for a swim in our swimming place and showed them our camp Then a couple of days after they had visited us guess what they did? They sent us a huge basket of fine peaches that nice? like for them to come hack to see us again even If there were no peaches to think about Sunday night Nancy Watson arrived at camp She is one of the girls who as been in Scout work for a Tong time and has worked to help make Scouting more and more successful Since May she has been attending several Scout training camps Camp Andrus Clark at Briareliff Manor New York tnd Camp Long Pond at Bournedale Mass At Camp Long Pond she was the bugler It is good to have her back home and to have her tell us about what Girl Scouts in another part of the country are doing and from the way Nancy Watson is dipping rignt into the midst of Kiwani fun we know that she is happy to be back at per own camp Monday night there was held at Kamp Kiwani the annual camp fire between the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts Of course they meet often during the summer around a camp fire to sing and have fun but this time things are more formal and more impressive The leaders of the two Chief Craig and Mrs Lilley presented to each other the emblem of this year at the two camps there was an Indian opening ceremony there were stunts songs gingerbread and lemonade and then the singing of Taps and the leaving of the camp fire Wednesday night the Scouts went on an over night hike to an excellent place about three miles away At first the site had to be cleared off and after everybody had raked and hoed down weeds and removed rocks and engaged in that sort of thing for a while every bo was hungry hungry with the kind of hunger that only hard work gives A fire was built green sticks were gathered and supper was started Please let me tell you what they had so you can go have a meal like it They had sis-ka-bob and some-mores This is how the sis-ka-bobs are prepared: You put on a green stick first a nice big piece of steak then a slice of onion then a piece of bacon You hold this over the fire and cook it until the steak is done then put all of it between some bread and oh just you ask some of those girls how good it is Then for the other dish It consists of placing half a bar of chocolate between two graham crackers and putting next to the chocolate two toasted marshmallows The hot marshmallows melt the chocolate whv go further? To say the least it was about the best hike we have had this veir and oh that food! Endless things could be said about the camp and the folks in it They live a happy healthy sort of life and now that Kamp Kiwani is closing its sixth season it looks back on its early years with a good sort of feeling the feeling that each year is being more successful in respect to numbers and equipment and that each year the high standard with which Kamp Kiwani began is being lived up to and more than that it is being raised Catholic Club Activities CAFE ASSOCIATION MEETS The Cafe Association will meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 1:30 o'clock The members will meet in the librarv for a brief business session before luncheon BRIDGE CLASSES The bridge classes are becoming larger each week At a party given last week the highest score was made by Mrs Maude Miller Ward who was awarded a box of candy The ladies are very enthusiastic over the bridge lessons and are looking forward to the tournament to be held in the fall LIBRARY NOTES A handsome bookcase was given to the library by Mr Leon Hunt who recently made a donation of 300 valuable books In memory of his brother the late Mr Hunt Other bookcases and shelves are being installed to care for the many volumes that are being donated daily The library Is now one of the most attractively arranged rooms of the club EXCURSION ENJOYED A large party of young people" chaperoned by Mr and Mrs George Schlocker returned early this morning after a delightful trl to Rose-dale Miss on the steamer Harry Lee Dancing and games on deck were the principal diversions enjoyed by the excursionists Thev also visited Helena Ark FTiar Boint
