Stretch, Straighten Up- Try Two Initial Exercises By JOSEPHINE LOWMAN If you have determined to add exercise to your health and beauty care, you can and should begin with easy ones. As a matter of fact stretching and an awareness of posture are two splendid exercises in themselves. If you will think of the way you are holding yourself times a day, and make a real effort to keep your spine straight and your rib cage lifted, to tuck your hips under and pull your abdominal muscles in, you will be indulging in one of the best exercises possible.

Don't think you will not know it! If you have been accustomed to slumping and make an effort to correct it, your poor, weak muscles will scream and you will feel fatigue and perhaps even an ache across the back of your shoulders. Back Ached One time long ago after an ill- 1 ness which left me with a tired; feeling, I suddenly realized that my posture had deteriorated and that I had been -slumping. I remember how my back ached when I determined to remedy the sltua-i lion with better posture. I kepti myself straight but I had to lie down on the floor or the bed periodically all through the day to rest those muscles. The is better.

When resting like this bend both posture and also most relaxing. If you would like to have my short routine of exercise planned espee ially for women, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your request for leaflet No. 19. Address Josephine Lowman in care of the DAILY REPUBLIC. Affianced home Saturday evening, Jan.

Twisting and stretching in every direction, slowly and thoroughly, in bed before you get up, -and stand- ng, after you get out of bed, is a splendid exercise. Stretch The following is also a good one. Je on the floor on your back with your legs straight and your arms resting on the floor overh a d.

Stretch from your fingertips 'to your toes so that you feel the pull over the abdomen and the diaphragm. Maintain this for a few moments. Relax and continue. After a while let the arms rest at sides. Now make yourself as long as possible, pushing forward from the hips and back with the top of the head.
