Don't Miss the Big: Ad on Sunday You Must Have the Coupon It Appears but ONCE I On Sunday October 221911 1 Whatever bopea the Tenneasee XMi cherished of cutting a swath in collegiate circles this fall were considerably dented when they went down Ignoralnous defeat before the Christian Brothers College yesterday score to Tho vanquished gladiators outweighed the Brothers by many pounds 1 but that natural advantage was the only trump they held And at times this card failed to take a trick proving- a handicap rather than an asset in the face of thd speed and skill Only In twp quarters did the Meds have their opponents on the defensive for a dangerous length of time that being in the second and third quarters At all other timed the lightweights were the aggressors carrying the light on in the territory Many reasons eould be offered for the poor showing of the tyro physicians but the principal one was lack of -training There was absolutely no finish to the squad's play the line charged well at times but poorly at others and the ends did more blocking than tackling If the machine bas been well trained It failed to reflect Its knowledge for many men- tal and manual fallacies marred the work Especially was this true when the Meds were forced to -the defensive Three different times in two quarters Coach warriors worked a shift formation for- handsome one sixty-yard simply because tho Meds refused to shift the tsckle snd guard to cope wim the reinforced attack Weak at Opea Came The conflict which opened the loeal season was supposed to demonstrate the ng qualit how a 'light crew-could equalising tie such hybrid plays as the forward pass snd onslde kick clash successfully with heavier eleven It failed to show this because the Brothers completely outclassed Coach squad- eveft when straight football tactics were -used-On end runs and line smashing plays the Meds efforts fell below the standard rreated by thblr lighter fqes 1 At tho open game however neither team experienced what mightbe termed flattering success Only two forward passes proved successful each team getting one through Numerous onsldfe kicks wars employed qnd generally brought- good gains These gains were' due though more to the illegal interference In the twenty-yard xone than to anything else Both crews were faulty In this respect It was Illegal interference by a Brothers' In tho second half that gave the athlete Meds their grandest opportunity to score when they lost the ball on the one-yard line But on the next play the Meds were offside and the penalty gave Bland ample latitude In which to kick out Of 'longer Interference Factor The first quarter opened with the Meds kicking off White toed the ball down tho field twenty yards Gulnee- returned the punt fifteen and a play over tackle netted nothing McDermott kicked' forty yards snd a end downed tho runner with a small gain Here the Meds were penalised for' holding and charge began their -flight toward the-opponent's line Aided by' brilliant interference and scintillating broken field tuns by Quarterback Oulnee snd Halfback Ross the Brothers rushed the ball to the- ten-yard line where tho quarter snrled One minute
