OPERA company has had a remarkably successful season In Balti? more as in New York, anti in Philadelphia, where a little perso.i.u spleen seems to have tho newspaper critics to say all that they could against thc troupe. iv drew flue houses. Miss Kellogg has a wide reputation; Le fane, thc tenor, has a voice of large compass and unusual power. This house occu? pies the extreme northeast section of the city proper, anti is one of the first landmarks that catches the 'eye of a stranger coming to the city or. the Northeastern Railroad. AN UNPLEASANT is rumored that Manager Ford Is considering the feasibility of the Academy of Music for a short time, and concentrating his dramatic forces In Augus? ta and other points where the companies now playing are drawing crowded houses. We trust that for once this is but one of Dame Rumor's baseless reports, and that the Charleston public will convince Mr. Ford that they not only appre? ciate the theatrical amusements that have been presented, but can and will certainly offer a bet? ter patronage to any histrionic performance than Augusta or other inland towns can boast.

the Academy of Music to-night there is a double bill for the benefit of thc Chap? man kilters. Blanche Chapman plays "Mrs. Del maine" in the Serious Family, and "Cinderella'' in the bnrlesque of that name. Ella Chapman plays "Dandlnl" in Cinderella. The great Bishop plays "Amlndab Sleek" and the gushing -flo? rinda." The Chapmans, on account of the weather, have had but poorhouses this week, and the "double bill" to-night will be a good chance to prove to "The Violets of the Stage" how popu? lar they are.

They have, In the "Serious Family," and In an opportunity of displaying to advantage their peculiar powers, and Bishop will be Immense PAUL indignant friend ol Chief Constable Hubbard demanded to know yester? day whether that oitlclal was thc person spoken of In this terse Pry in Charleston. Look out," which appeared in a dozen different plartfe in TUE NEWS of Wednesday. Chief Con? stable Hubbard may be a "Paul Pry," but cer? tainly is not fte "Paul Pry," who is one of the best fellows and'most telling actors in. this world Lclow. and who may be seen at the Academy of Music to-morrow.

N. a official, whose salary is $1500. a a slice of Blue Ridge pie worth $50,060, and- If a body tell a body, Need a body cry PANORAMA OT NEW at three o'clock, at the Hibernian Hall, the panorama of New York City gives Its first exhibition, and ex? hibits every afternoon and night to Wednesday nlght next, inclusive, at and o'clock. The Macon (Qa.) Telegraph says Ralston Hall was well tilled yesterday afternoon by the pupils and teachers of the various schools of the city, to witness Billiard's great panorama of New York, and at night the hall was again crowded by all classes of citizens.

As a specimen of art it ls, perhaps, unsurpassed by anything of the kind lu the United States. Everything the artist touched with his pencil is presented in a most striking and lifelike manner. And, then, the Interesting, instructive, and at times highly amusing lecture, which accompanies the passing panorama, almost makes the spectator believe that he ls riding along Broadway in a phrcton, with some intelligent and well-posted friend, who is pointing ont and calling hts attention to all ob? jects on either side worth a passing notice. We all who have not done so to go and see this triumph of art, and thoroughly post themselves on the beauties, mysteries, miseries and wonders of Gotham. trial of thc new organ on "Wednesday night, at the Church of the Holy Com mutnon, was concluded by singing the doxology, in which the entire assemblage Joined.

It is stated that nearly ten miles of plankroad have been laid in this city by the present admin? istration. The stores that have been constructed on the Bay since the war arc furnished with cellars iu which the drainage is perfect, thas avoiding thc over? flows that the older buildings are subjected to. That portion of State street adjoining Broad is now receiving'attention from the hands of Cap? tain Jenks, the street Inspector. The Banner Watchman says: "The same night on which the trial of our injured citizens, for the binning of the stores ol Robertson and DuBose, was concluded, thc ginhousc of Major T. B.

Fra? zer was reduced to ashes, and on the following night that or Dr. J. B. Witherspoon shared the same fate. Is thertahopeof Executive proclama? tion offering reward for the Incendiaries We shall see." The Savannah River reached its turning point on Tuesday night, and at 3 P.

on Wednesday, was sixteen feet, titree inches at the Toll Bridge. The Columbia Guardian says: "DeLarge, who seems tobe the acknowledged leader of the House, Inn course of bitter invective directed toward the honorable President of the Senate, styles him 'that infamous man, too low for heaven and too mean for lt" Is reported that Governor Scott offers a re? ward of $500 for the arrest of the Greenville in? cendiaries. The Georgia Senate transacted no business on Tuesday, thc House met and organized.

Donaldson, or Gordon: Taliafcrro, or Fulton, and Nunn, or Glasscock, were declared Ineligible, and sixteen seats were declared vacant, viz: those or iinrtz, Brinsou, Bennett, George, Coil', Hudson, Johnson, Kellogg, Meadows, Per land, Surrency, Smith, H. Williams, Drake. Kilts and Rouse, who, railing to come forward and qualify, arc declared ineligible; and, the order goes on to say, they have admitted their ineligibility by tiling with Bullock applications to Congress for thc removal I Of their disabilities. Tlte revised roll was then called, and thc House proceeded to Hie election or speaker, voting, in order or Bullock, viva voce, isa votes were cast. Necessary to a choice, CT.

McWhorter 70, Bryant 02, Price 4, John Smith 1. McWhorter was elected by the Democrats not being united in their votes. Harris appointed Scott and Bryant to conduct McWhorter to thc chair. Scott made a short speech, not committing himsclT to any special line or policy. The Republicans will have probably a majority or eight in the House.

Nothing is known as to the decision or the mili? tary inquisition in regard to thc senators accused of ineligibility. CHAMPAGNE BATHS, A gentleman recently from AVashlngton, and who was there while Bullock was cutting up his highest jinks, informed a member of tbs Legisla? ture that Hie supper Bullock gave Butler and other Radicals, to celebrate the passage of the Georgia bill, cost five thousand dollars: atti that in order to keep up during thc night and day sessions or Congress, took three champagne baths at seventy-five dollars each. Who pays TH nor cans. The Augusta'Constitutionalist noticed on Tues? day, in the Georgia Railroad yard, a couple or ex? cellent rreight cars, from the Richmond and Danville Railroad, shipped via the Charlotte, Co? lumbia and Augusta Railroad, en route to At? lanta. These cars are of pounds capacity, and are mounted upou trucks to which have been applied patent adjustable Axles," sus? ceptible or ch.

to suit thc various gauges or thc roads from Richmond to their destination aud beyond-indeed, to any gauge of road over which they may be running. They are marked lor thc Piedmont Air Line, which connects with Richmond, Charlotte, Columbia, Augusta, Atlanta, Savannah, Macon, Montgomery and Mobile. The application or this axle will go rar to promote the advantage of shipment in bulk over roads or dif? ferent gauge, and commends itseir to railroad men. A BLOODY AFKRAY. The Dahlonega Signal says that a bloody affray took place on Wednesday, of last week, on thc Black Mountain Road, about three or four miles north ot that place, between Scion Cochran and J.

K. nnd-Bcar John Woody, in which Bear John Woody was instantly killed, and J. K. was very severely, though perhaps not fatally, cut In thc side by Cochran. The cause of thu difficulty was purely of a family matter, and can be in uo way construed as arising from politics, as all thc par? ties concerned were Republicans.

THE steamer, Captain Adair, will receive freight to-morrow, at Accommoda? tion wharf, ror Wright's Bluff and intermediate landings, and will leave with dispatch. BUSINESS NEWS Job Office ls now prepared to furnish good envelopes, with business cards printed thereon, at $4 per thous? and. Send your orders. Every merchant and business man should have his card printed on his envelopes. REAL ESTATE Leitch Bruns sold, yesterday, a two and a hair story wooden dwelling, with piazza and outbuildings, on the north side or Green street, for S2S00.

Mr. Z. B. Oakes sold the business stand at thc northeast Broad and King streets ror $7050. 1 A three story brick store and dwelling on King street, adjoining the above, ror $1925.

By Hutson Lee, a house and lot on Wall street Tor $565. A NOBLE CBABITT AND SPLENDID ENTER? performance at the Academy of Music to-morrow afternoon is a remarkable one in itseir. but, by way or piling Pelion on Ossa, Manager Ford gives notice that "thc entire re? ceipts (xcithout any deduction for expenses) from children, will be given to the Widows' Of this noble charity, we need not say a word of praise. It is the one which touches most acutely the sympathies of our people. And it will be a pleas? ant thing for all the "little ones" to know that each one of them who goes to the Academy to-mor? row afternoon, will be putting the price of admis? sion directly into the coffers of the Home of which they have heard so much.

This will give jest to the amusement, and a heartier ring to their merry laugh. Let the Academy bc filled with children, und thc Inmates of the Home for thc mothers wivc3 and daughters of the Confede? rate dead will have cause to bless the day. TnE ACADEMY OF MUSIC-The unfavorable weather of last evening prevented a large atten? dance at the Academy of Music, but those who braved the elements were fully compensated, for a greater carnival of fun has seldom been witnessed. The acting was broadly runny, and the Audience took the witticisms, and enjoyed the humor of thc play Hilly. The opening piece, Buck stone's comedy of "Married Lire," was capitally rendered, and the denouement was a convincing proof that "mantrimony ls a dangerous thing." Bishop was as usual sublimely the hon? ors were eqqally sustained by Blanche Chapman and Mr.

Kennedy. Ixion ls an acknowledged favorite on the boards, and ls one of thc specialties or the present troupe. It was Impossble to restrain laughter at the broad comicalities of "Minerva" (Bishop;) but Mercury (Ella Chapman) was the bright particular star who took the house by storm and captivated thc hearts of her hear? ers. She was encored three times on the opening song, and the "Tassels on the Boots" was given In such a manner that even th? elder and sedate business lu the audience threw aside their dignity for the nonce and joined heartily in the applause. "Ixion" is one or thc broadest and most mirth-provoking ol all burlesques, in which no opportunity is lost to present those points of local significance that eau never rail to provoke the rlslDles irresistibly.

"The weak cateth herbs," says St. Paul, so that eighteen hundred years ago the value or medici? nal plants was appreciated. In thc Old Testa? ment botanical remedies are repeatedly recom? mended, but In no passage or sacred history ls man recommended to swallow calomel, or blue pill, or any other mineral preparation. The sick were directed to eat herbs to strengthen them, to purify them, to heal them, to resto-e them. In that day thc art of makins vegetable extracts was unknown.

The herbal medicines were mere Infusions. lt was reserved for a later agc to unite the san? itary essences or tonic, aperient and anti-bilious roots, barks and plants, with an active stimulant, and thus secure rapid diffusion through the debilitated or disordered system. Thc crowning triumph of this effective mode of concentrating and applying thc virtues of medicinal vegetables was achieved In the production of HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS. Never l.erorc had a perfer' ly pure alcoholic stimulant been combined un the expressed juices of the finest specifics of thc vegetable kingdom. Never yet, though eighteen years have elapsed since its Introduction, lias this great restorative been equalled.

It ls taken at all seasons, lu all climes, as thc most potent safe? guard against epidemics, as a protection against all unhealthy exhalations that produce debility or beget disease; as a remedy for Intermittent and other malarious fevers; as an appetizer; as a sov? ereign cure for dyspepsia; as a general tonic and luvlgoraut: ns a gentle, painless aperient; as a blood as a nervine; as a cure for bilious affections; as a harmiess adodyne; and as thc best defence of health under favorable circum? stances, such as sedentary pursuits, undue bod? ily or mental exertion, hardship, privation and exposure.
