Republicans of the Fourth Ward tvill meet at the sheriff's office Friday evening next at 7:30 t'. Jr., for the purpose of organising a Republican club. Every Republican in the ward is requested to ibe present. E. II. CLARKE, Com. ' The Public School. The Algona public school opened ior the fall term Monday morning. The summer vacation is over and scholars and teachers are fresh for the work and full of enthusiasm. A meeting of the teachers was held Saturday afternoon, preparatory to the opening of school on Monday. Below we give the assignment of teachers to the several rooms and the attendance for the (irst day: Room I—Miss Tillie Cramer. Iloom 2—Miss Lillian .Decker. Room 3—Miss Alma Clironholm. Room 4—-MissOllie Wilkinson. Boom 5—Miss Jennie Bailey. Room fi—Miss Cora Wise. Iloom 7—Miss Ilattie Chesley. Iloom 8—Miss Edith Call. Iloorn 9—Mrs. L. M. Ilorton. Boom 10—Miss Eva Whitney. Depot School—Miss Josie Pettibone. Teacher of Vocal' Music—Miss Jennie Fahnestock. Total attendance iirst day 883—38 more than on iirst'day of last year. Total enrollment second day 420—61 more than for second day of last year. NOTES. Misses Decker, Chronbolrn and Chesley are new teachers and abundantly qualified for their work. Miss Decker comes from Clarence, Iowa, Miss Chronholm from Bancroft and Miss Chesley from Blue Earth. Supt. W. II. Dixson, Mrs. Ilorton, Miss Edith Call. Miss Ollie Wilkinson, Miss Jennie Bailey and Miss Pettibone spent the most or all of their vacation in the county. Cora Wise returned from Dubuque, where she spent her vacation, Friday night, and began her work in the public school Monday. Miss Eva Whitney returned from her Xew York visit Saturday morning and commenced school duties the following Monday. Miss Cramer returned to Algona Saturday from Laurens, where she spent her summer vacation on a farm. Chas. F. Parker, as janitor, will keep the building in first class condition for the.year.
