basis of price comparison had nearly vanished They now declare that they are approaching the new season in the belief that the price comparison must really be eliminated Some of the reasons for this confidence may le found tn the details and spec! tk a tii ms of the new models The Cadillac executives have continued the line of progress that has already been under way The builders and designers have taken several steps forward with the fundamentals that have hitherto char acterized their product The essential features of the 1913 Cadillac are the long stroke engine more power silent chain driven cam shaft Inclosed valves a quiet motor longer wheel base larger tiros electrical system of automatic cranking lighting and Ignition simplified and im proved automatic spark control and uu merous refinements of essential details '1 hose vital features are embodied in all the new models which are listed as fol lows: standard five passenger tour ing car which is to sell for $1975 three passenger limousine for $3250 IMPROVE ELECTRIC DEVICES One of the must novel satisfactory in novations of the 1912 Cadillac was the Delco system of automatic electric crank ing electric lighting and ignition or the 1913 models the Cadillac experts promise a vastly simplified and improved Delco equipment developed from their ex perience with the old system on 12000 1912 cars Among the simplifications are the successful adoption of the single in stead of double voltage system thereby eliminating the controlling switch the me ter much wiring and many parts The voltage is regulated and the batteries charged automatically the intention be ing to reduce to an absolute minimum the attention required The switches for starting lighting and ignition the latter I equipped with a lale lock are more con veniently located The electrical equip ment includes an automatic spark ad vance that Is thoroughly practical and eificient thus relieving the driver of the necessity tor constant attention In addi tion to these features there is also the Delco distributer ignition system with a separate set of complete and independent ignition systems The Cadillac 1913 engine will have a long stroke 5 inches with a 4 inch bore materially increasing the power This amplification of power is especially observable at speeds from twelve to thir ty five miles an hour dynamometer tests registering an increase of from 18 to 25 per cent The cam shaft and generator shaft are driven by silent chains valves are inclosed The engine generates 40 50 horse power The silent chain driven cam shaft Inclosed valves and various re finements of workmanship produce an engine of unusual quietness A car buretor of marked efficiency and sim plicity has been further simplified now requiring but a single means of adjust ment The 1913 models which are fully equipped are to be shown in Cadillac blue throughout including wheels with light striping and nickel trimmings The Cadillac Company manufactures nearly every part of its cars and the new models will have the advantage of all the motor car virtues and values which these condi tions provide His Salesroom Wins High Praise of Detroit the cylinder too says Emil Grossman manufacturer of spark plugs only want to be tight enough to prevent the leakage of gas If they are screwed In too tight it breaks the porcelain and ends their The experts of the Massachusetts In ing allowed for loading and the maximum stitute of Technology decided some time ago to investigate the comparative costs of horse delivery electric delivery and gas car delivery and being scientists they were not satisfied with usual meth ods of securing data but determined upon a mechanical record of the performance of each wagon that would absolutely eliminate the human factor in the prob lem A speed indicator was devised with a tape record that showed every movement of the wagon its actual and its relative speeds at every hour in the day and also the number of stops and the amount of time the wagon stood idle during every stop When the record was complete the driver was required to explain the cause of every stop and in this way the scien tists secured a record of his drinks This was an unexpected development of a serious investigation The really im portant facts unearthed according to Johnson assistant manager of the Waverley company were those relating to delivery costs Quoting the Scientific American he says: first thing that suggests itself as an outcome to the investigations up to date is that requirements are as Important a factor In
