For two months there has been little money in the city treasury, so the teachers, some in dire need, de cided to quit as a means of forcing city and State officials to pay and re-employ them. Mr. Myer and son Frank will remain until late in the summer. CELESTE GIRIS PICNIC Honoring the Nrisses Evelyn and Frances Adams of Bellevue, who are the house guests of Miss Marguerite DeJane of East Clayton street, the Celeste Girls entertained at a picnic dinner at the park last evening. CHRISTIANS HOLD LAWN FETE LOCAL PEOPLE OFF TO CANADA Fire was discovered about 5:30 this morning in the New Castle Continental Grocery store, on North Liberty street. Several men, who happened to be passing the store at the time, noticed smoke issuing from the building, and upon investigation discovered the rear end of the store in a blaze. In some manner an oil mop had become ignited and had set fire to a number of articles surrounding it.

John Fisher of West Wabash manager of the store, was notified and alarm was turned in to which the Seventh ward department responded. The fire was extinguished in a short time. Very little damage was done. LAWX FETE A SUCCESS Due to the untiring efforts of the different committees, the lawn fete given by the members of the Madison avenue Christian church last evening, on the lawn of the church, was a great success. A large crowd attended and quite a ntim of money was realized.
