moved at Will "Has Los Angeles become mecca for the man or woman who would seek legal separation from one another?" This Is question now puzzling flcials of the Los Angeles county superior court. During the past month, one of greatest harvests of divorces In many years has been registered and an average of granted decrees of more than two a day, Including Sundays, Is shown by the calendar for July. Old women, young women, rich women, poor women and every other kind of a woman on the face of the globe, including the long and short ones, and even the dark ones, have been in the divorce court during the past month and every nationality in Los Angeles has been represented, with the exception of the Chinese. Men have been there, too, and have spent their time lauding their own dispositions and throwing mud at the characters and peculiarities of their wives. The women, in this particular respect, have also held a foremost place on the witness stand and as a result the testimony in a number of cases has charged both husband and wife with peculiarities that 'would seem incredible to the ordinary man or woman.

All Kinds of Charges In their petitions the plaintiffs have charged every action imaginable, including desertion, intoxication, cruelty, general misbehavior and about fifty other varieties of misbehavior, but desertion has been largely in the majority. "The most peculiar feature of the many decrees entered during July and the fact that is causing the most speculation is that more than three-fourths of the men and 'women who make the applications are recent arrivals in California and many have been in the county only the time prescribed by law when they file their petitions," said a court official yesterday. "Whether the people come to Los Angeles with the express purpose of getting a divorce because it is easier or whether they come from the eastern cities in order that their neighbors may know little or nothing of the disturbances of their domestic relations, which necessarily come out during the trial, is not known, but it has been proved in the majority of cases that when a petition is filed by parties from some far eastern section of country the details are generally shocking. "Because of the great number of divorces granted in this county easterners, in speaking of Los Angeles, say a decree of divorce is attached to each marriage license to be removed at the convenience of either party and from the extraordinary number of new petitions filed last month to be tried during August the local courts can expect no relief from the hearing of domestic troubles for some time." Woman Gets Decree Mrs. Mary Sentner was granted a divorce from Samuel Sentner by Judge Oster yesterday.

The woman was married in New York and, according to her allegation, her husband forced her to enter a house of 111 repute. Four Decrees Granted Decrees of divorce were granted the plaintiffs in the following cases yesterday: W. H. Pat ton against Alice Patton; Albert W. Brown against Mabel C.

Brown; Edith W. Calvert against G. M. Calvert and Charles Rodriguez against Rita Rodriguez. Four Seek Divorces Petitions for divorce were filed yesterday as follows: Ola H.

Estes against Joseph Estes; Winnie Woodlam against William Woodlam; Mathilde Klauss against Christian Klauss, and Annie Jones against Robert Jones. C. Trunk Factory, (29 South lit. LOS ANGELES HERALD: FRIDAY MORNING, AUGUST 4, 1905. NAMED AS BRIDESMAID FOR THE WEDDING OF A PRINCESS MIB3 VETA HENDERSON Miss Veta Henderson, who Is appearing with Harry K.irle Godfrey at the Orpheum this week In "A Daughter of the Gods," was one of the four American girls named as bridesmaids for the Russian Princess Llnoff, the closest friend of the about two years ago. The engagement of the Princess Llnoff and Count Alessandro de Lodl, when announced created quite a stir in royal and higher circles, especially when it was announced that the four bridesmaids should be selected by the ambassadors of the foreign powers.

Each ambassador was requested to ask one of his country women to act as a bridesmaid and one as a matron of honor. All the foreign ministers agreed to this. The American ambassador named Mrs. Henry F. McKinney of URGE COUNCIL TO SUPPORT MAYOR CLUB WOMEN INSIST ON THE BOARD'S REMOVAL Generally Believed That Councllmen Will Side With the Commission Instead of With McAleer When Test Comes Some of the women of the Friday Morning club have formed themselves Into a self-appointed reception committee to, welcome home the councilmen who journeyed to Portland to see the fair.

At least that, Is what some of the city fathers who have already returned say. Councilman Fred Ford of the First ward returned yesterday and had not been In the city hall ten minutes when two of the club women cornered him and demanded to know whether or no he intended to support the mayor In the library squabble on Monday. The unhappy councilman was not familiar with the recent developments In the case and frankly told the clubltes that he would have to Investigate before making a decision and when he was in possession of all of the facts he would act. The legislator did not secure his release by this, however, and when the clubwomen finally left him he was wearing an expression of meekness personified. Make Request to Council The executive committee of the Friday Morning club passed a resolution asking the council to stand by the mayor and a copy of the resolution has been filed with the city clerk.

This resolution was not adopted at a regular meeting, but was sent up by the several members of the executive committee on their own responsibility. From the progress made In this' campaign politicians say it is evident women are not a success in politics. "Why, the ink on the resolution of library board discharging Miss Jones was hardly dry," said one, "before the Friday Morning club registered another resolution with Mayor MoAleer protest- Ing against the removal of Miss Jones without a hearing as being un-American and demanding the immediate re- loyal of the library directors. "The women forgot to say anything about an investigation, they neglected to remember that the library directors evidently had reasons for removing Miss Jones; In fact, they Jumped at conclusions, and Immediately asked the mayor to violate the principles which In the fore part of their resolution they were upholding." The library directors keeping mum; they are confident, for they believe that the city's legislative body will not censure them for attempting to do their duty, director said yesterday that not only he, but the other members of the board, are receiving letters and personal calls from business men and club women in which they were assured of the hearty sup- New York as matron of honor for America, and suggested to the princess the names of Miss Veta Henderson, Miss Daisy Letter of Chicago, Mlaa Edith Terry of Louisville and' Miss Marie Bishop of New York, from whom she was to select her American bridesmaid. With the exception of Miss Henderson the four young ladles were at that time in Europe and, after considerable hesitation, the princess selected MHs Letter as her American bridesmaid.

Although It was not Miss Henderson's fortune to be the bridesmaid finally chosen to witness the, royal ceremony, she still treasures the ambassador's letter announcing the mention given her name in connection with the royal alliance. Miss Henderson's present home is in Denver, where she is prominent in the younger social set. port of the great majority of the citizens. The Wednesday Morning' club, the women's club of the East Bide, of which Mayor McAleer Is a member, yesterday passed resolutions demand- Ing of the council that they support the mayor In his efforts to please the 7 Four Facts For Sick Women To Considez Lydia E. Yinkliom's Advice Is Canftden- Hal, Free, and always Helpful That almost every operation In our hospitals performed upon women becomes necessary through neglect of symptoms as backache, irregular and painful menstruation, leuoorrhoe'a, displacements of the pain in the side, burning sensation in the stom- ach, bearing-down pains, nervousness, dizziness and sleeplessness. The medicine that holds the record for the largest number of absolute cures of female) ills is Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. It regulates, strengthens and cures diseases of the female organism as nothing else oan. For thirty years it has been helping women to be strong, curing backache, nervousness, kidney troubles, all uter- ine and ovarian inflammation, weak- ness and displacen ats, regulating menstruation perfectly and overcom- ing its pains.

It has also proved itself invaluable in preparing for childbirth and the change of life. The great volume of unso- licited and grateful testimonials on file at the Pinkham Laboratory at Lynn, many of which are from time to time published by permission, give ab- solute evidence of the value of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound and Mrs. Pinkham's advice. Every ailing woman in the United States is asked to accept the following Invitation.

It is free, will bring you health and may your life. Mrs. Pinkham's Standing Invitation to Women suffering from any form of female weakness are invited to promptly communicate with Mrs. Pink- ham. at Lynn, Mass.
