One of the noteworthy features of this company Is that, with the single exception of Lule Warrcnton, who "made good" as character woman with the Ulrlchs last year, the members will all be new to Los Angeles, and It is promised by the Grand opera house management that the company will be much stronger in every respect than that of last season. Richard Buhler, the leading man of the company, Is one of the best known stork actors of the east. He is a man of appearance and athletic figure. Ethel Clifton, the leading woman, has also had a long experience with Btock companies in Brooklyn, Cincinnati, Montreal and other eastern cities. Her work Is characterized by a sympathetic quality which enables her to eeciire strong effects without apparent effort.

John Harrington, who will play leading "heavy" parts, has been identified with James Neill and the Majestic theater In San Francisco, and is already known in the northern part of state. He has not been seen here for several years. Brcnda Fowler has never played on the. coast before, but has had several experience in "heavy" work with companies In New York and on th? road In the eastern states. Henry Auerbach, the comedian of the company, comes from A.

Brady's forces, and has played with 'Way Down East," Ralph Stuart and In stock in Boston. Hope Mayne, the soubrette, conies from Australia, and this is her first American engagement. She has been on this side of the Pacific for about eight weeks. She Is a charming actress, and Is also a singer of considerable ability. She will be one of the "sunshine spots" In the new company.

Miss Warrenton Is well known from her consistent work last ypar. John Hynes has been with Frederick Warde and stock companlps at the Alcazar, San Francisco; Columbia in Portland, and also In Cincinnati. This recommendation from the chief provoked a warm discussion of the subject, which resulted in the question being laid over for one week. Commissioner James declared that billiards is a harmless amusement and that the board should not refuse to grant licenses to proper persons.
