Jerry Daniel Reed Reporter-News Staff Writer Cost-conscious Taylor County commissioners found little merit in proposed merit pay raises Tuesday rejecting all five such proposals presented Requests for merit raises for JoAnn Mashburn Precinct 2 justice of the peace Obie Coker county maintenance supervisor and Mike Lindsay chief Juvenile probation officer and two justice of the peace office clerks all were turned down Commissioners continued to wrestle with a county budget about $135 million short of revenue to match requested Bpending one week before proposing a budget for fiscal year 2001 and a tax rate to fond it Sizable pay raises years earlier were enough to sink most of the requests But Frank Cleveland Precinct 4 justice of the peace persuaded commissioners to upgrade his pay group two notches Commissioners noted that JP court though it still handles fewer cases than the four others has more than tripled his revenue since 1984 pay would increase from $19700 to $22704 a year on Oct 1
